New guy here that needs some advice/help
Ok, so im looking at what possibly could be my first diesel. And i found someone locally with an '03 crew cab fx4 with the "horrible" 6.0. Im an automobile technician and but have no dealings with diesels. I got some ford certified diesel techs im gonna ask questions to, but...iono..wut the heck. i jus wanted to see what some of u guys had to say. this guy has had this truck from day one and now it currently has 170k miles on it. at 40k miles he put a bully dog programmer on it with some mild tunes and has never had any problems. he said he had some injector sensor or something go out and some problems with the egr system but its all been fixed. I hear all this crap about 6.0s and thats all the problems he has had?....and its got 170k miles on it.....so basically im asking is this truck worth getting or am i looking at a deep dark pit of problems and money. All comments wud be appreciated...thanks

run fast
the only powerstroke worth looking at is the 7.3. the 6.0 yet a good running fast little motor tends to have multiple problems especially with that many miles. its just my opinion but if you want ford go 7.3. i personally like to stick to cummins (particularly a 12 valve) the reason is because my uncle in oklahoma has a 92 and has 657k miles on it and he still drives it every day. the only thing that has been replaced was the tranny. hope i helped any

I wouldn't be afraid to buy it, I have an early 04 f350 4x4 auto. I have 191k on it and yes I did have to replace the ICP sensor also but that is it. I was forwarned about the egr issue so at 50k I just unplugged it and around 150k I blocked it off at both ends to make sure. I have mods on it and I don't take it real easy on it either. If you want to keep the egr the good thing is that the 03 and early 04 6.0s have the better egr cooler on them, better to get rid of it or block it off though, it makes the truck run much better, cooler, and last even longer..
