Anyone who has changed a fuel plate, increasing the fuel psi and power, in a Cummins would argue that point with you. You yourself admit that you can feel new fuel filters. That in itself would be an indication of power through better fuel psi.

Now a gauge would be a great idea, I'm thinkin that I like that billet fuel gauge adapter.

As a side note, the "upgraded spring" that we've talked about... I've found posts on some of the forums where guys were removing them because it was TOO MUCH pressure. I read some guys were having over 100psi going through their system and the spring was not regulating below that. That would lead to some blown seals/o-rings. Just some food for thought.
Instead of buying the billet fuel filter cap and using the port on the top of that, you can just put a gauge on the test port on the stock fuel bowl. Just simply remove the plug and insert your fittings... easy as pie.
