I'd bet you need a FICM - I have repaired about 15 hard/no start cold concerns this week, all FICMS.

But any generic code reader will READ the codes. I have a cheapie $19 one for just pulling codes quick.

And in North Carolina you shouldn't even need glow plugs to fire off a powerstroke.
