Default 6.0 might just have to work

I have a 94 cummins with a 12 valve that i have used for work for the last 3 years. it gets about 29 miles to the gallon and is pimped out pretty good. never seen a better looking truck with a service body. but my sister is getting her liscense and thats the truck she wants. I own a company and have several 6.0 fords and theyve all done ok and i think i am going to have to drive one for awhile after i give my sister my real ride. the pos i have picked out for myself gets about 9 mpgs on a good day. my past experience has been that if you straight pipe a 6.0 that gives it about 7 mpgs more. i have never had one long enough to see long term effects though. tell me what this does if anyone knows. i never had any problems with the shop not warrantying any of the problems i ever had either. so thats my first move i believe. second, i need to put a programmer on it, i have used the bullydog triple dog on it. works nice. gives it some juice, helps the mileage a little, but without that exhaust mod nothing helps mpgs very good. give me a shout with any advice. oh and the guy who is harping his rear off about how awesome the sct is i know what you think. i even looked into it a little bit. how does the custom tunes work though.

7 and 9 mpg??? are these F450's with 4.88 gears??

Only way for me to get my truck that low is to hook up my 13,300lbs 5th wheel behind it. Then it averages 9.5...

i dont know how i did it, i just messed with an adjustable fuel plate back and forth a little bit and changed some gears and put some 4000 rpm governer springs in it. i also fill my fuel filters with atf everytime i change it. and the service body is also aluminum too. but 29 miles to gallon should be expected out of something you mess with enough. shoot my whifes daily driver is a 2007 5.9 crew cab short bed 4x4 and the only thing i have done to it is buy an after maerket muffler and put a bullydog on it. we leave the crazy larry on it and it she drives the hell out of it(35 inh tires) all the time and it averages around 23. all i do is mess with them and mess with them until i find something that works. i own a business so we are constantly changing vehicles. when an old dies on us or gets close we trade it in on a new nice pickup and one of us drives it and i just get them running good before we change out again. on the 2007 i tried 7 programmers before i finally found the bully dog would work. just do some research and keep on trying. thats how i get em to do that. this 6.0 is the worst mileage vehicle we have and i am just driving it until i can get it to do it too. everything is in working condition though. we had some bad injectors in it that we changed out here recently. it had a bad fuel knock before hand. but everything in it is clean and new. it just suck on mileage.

another question, i have a 2006 6.0 king ranch that runs fine until you put a trailer behind it and then it shoots antifreeze out the filler cap. done all i know to do, what could this problem be caused by?

ditch the fords dude, that's the only thing i can suggest, i don't know why it would shoot antifreeze out of the filler cap, PSD's are by far the most inferior at least the 6.0 the new 6.4 i do admit I like but they screwed the pooch on the 6.0, just not a good engine i don't care if some people make huge power, there are more problems with them than with any other diesel out there

6.0l is a great motor but it came with a terrible head design and way under torqued studs. get rid of the crapy head studs and get a good set of performance ones and your head gaskets will never be a problem. get rid of the immessions stuff and put a nice intake on it with a mild programmer. i would say if you threw $2000 or so at it you would love that truck. every truck has its issues getting them fixed before they bite you is the challenge. HEAD STUDS!

what he said head studs and an egr delete and tunes on an sct from cale @bts or eric @ innovative.. and you ll love the truck. i like how all these people get on that really dont know schit about the 6.0 except all the B.S. that goes around about them and try to talk it down.. and id really like to see this service truck that gets 29 mpg.. another thing have you checked the egr valve on that king ranch

i will check the egr valve thanks black. i have had over 10 of the 6.0 engines and of ten i have had to replace motors in 4 of them before or right at 50k miles. i have only had 3 dodges and all have ran just fine without ever having any troubles except for the trannies in the both the 12 valves i had that were 5 speeds. all the dodges have gotten great mileage and had quicker more responsive power than the fords have ever had and i have done many many things to these 6.0 engines to get more power. but thats the thing about it. i have only had 3 dodges. i am sure that in a group of ten, i would probably have the same luck and i would have trouble with everything if i ever had 6.7l cummins. pos is something i label everything made after 2007. not buying nothing new. personal opinion. i dont look much at the manufacturer of the vehicle it all lies in the luck of the draw.
