White smoke a lot of time means a head gasket went south, though it can also point to a bad injector. The "black crap" very well could be soot carried out of the exhaust by water/coolant/steam from coolant leaking into the combustion chamber. I'm sure someone more familiar with the PSD will be able to confirm or deny that though. Good luck.

First of all does this truck smoke white all of the time or just at start up? If is smokes all of the time it could be the egr cooler, many problems with these I'm sure you've heard. One way to tell is to pull out your EGR valve and see if it has a black sludge on it. If you go to buy a cooler, make sure the stamping number has a c6 in it. The earlier coolers, c5 c4 had very small coolant passages that led to this issue. The last one that I got from Ford still was the old number, just a heads up. If it was me I would simply do a EGR delete, it cost about the same in the end and is much more benificial. The problem with this is emissions restrictions depending on where you live. Good luck to ya and if you have further question please ask.
