Default steering issue

A friend is having trouble with his super duty & I thought somebody else might have had or heard of this before.

05 with the 6.0 and 91,000 mi. on it. If I pull over and turn the wheel lock to lock it gets better. It usually only does it after I first start driving it but lately it has started doing it after it has been on the road a little longer. I am pretty sure it's a fluid power issue and not mechanical. It will pull to the right and I have to fight to keep it somewhat straight then it is like the fluid pressure releases and it takes off to the left. If you were following me down the road you would swear I had a case of beer in me.

TIA, Ed

The popular thought is that it's a weak/damaged spring in the gear box or a sticking valve, bleeding pressure to one side. He's getting another gear box to try out.
