Default 06 6.0 rough ideal won't run

I have a 06 powerstroke. When started runs rough rpm's jumping up and down when I put into drive it stall. I get a Interpressure to low error. Sounded to me like it wasn't getting enough fuel I changes the filter ran go for a day now it is doing it again. I checked the filter and fuel bowl on the top of the engine it was almost empty. I had a sucking sound when I removed the cap. I think there is air getting into me fuel system. The truck will ideal and run fine until I get on it and same thing happens. It has no fuel in top bowl. Any ideas.

Check fuel pressure. I wouldn't drive it any more, low fuel pressure kills injectors. I would bet the pump's gone for a dump.

Should be covered under diesel engine warranty.

I do not get any smoke with it I was working on it today. If I take off the top cap for the engine filter it will fill up slow up fills up. Then it will start up and run for a while then start acting funny again. What is the fuel pressure going to be and what is the best way to check it. My truck has 101k on it so I am sure Ford will not cover it...

I agree with big-angry-hillbilly on this one. It sounds like the pump is going out or it is intermittent. You said when you take the cap off the engine fuel filter it fills back up and you are getting a suction sound while removing the cap, correct? Sounds like the engine is sucking what fuel is available and then is starving. Once you release pressure in the fuel path it allows gravity to refill the filter. Either you have a pump going bad or something clogging the fuel line prior to the first fuel filter under the truck.

Fuel pressure needs to be checked with a gauge while driving the truck at WOT.

I can't think off the top of my head what the spec is, I wanna say 45psi, but I think I'm wrong. I think it's 55. Ah hell, let me look it up.

A-Ha, I was right. 45 psi MIN spec and 58 psi MAX spec - that's on an F series. E series is different.
