I bought a 08 dodge because of a better tranny than the earlier models and been very happy with it
05-up...
as far as "just fixing the problem... It aint that easy... and it aint up to Ford, International makes the engine. But to "just fix the problem" would require redesigning and new manufacturing equipment for the different design. The 5R110 Trans that Ford uses is about the strongest stock trans out there.

I do agree with you. Ford should have put in Headstuds! A large part of why the problems occur in the Ford trucks is because Ford upped the power from what International made it at.

Have the dealer run an Oasis report on the 05 to see what all has been repaired on it. Most the issues with these trucks happened with the 03.5-04 models.

The KOEO noise you hear is the FICM's inductive heating flash, it rattles the injector magnets back and forth to heat them up so they don't stick cold, and to help cold start emissions and misfires.

03-early 06 like to stretch headbolts. Head studs are common upgrade for a 6.0

03-07 should have a coolant filter as there seems to have been gunk left in the passages from the casting process. this gunk seem to break loose at times and clog in the oil cooler causing some coolant puking.

03 - early 06 EGR coolers have been known to crack. This may also be a continuing issue with the later 06 and 07 trucks too.

All will need periodic EGR cleaning

ICP sensors seem to be common complaints on these trucks.

The VG-turbo sometimes needs to be cleaned as the vanes will stick. (Mine never have)

In 65,000 miles my truck has treated me pretty well. I do have ARP headstuds. I've had a couple sensors replaced along with an EGR and an EGR cooler.

I think that some of the horror stories are a blown up a little. Many of them came from earlier tuners and chips. Predator is one that is known to pop head gaskets pretty quick.
ALL 6.0's stretch head bolts. 03 and early 04's had a round tube style egr cooler also, that I have NEVER changed. When the design changed to the rad-style square cooler, thats when most of the failures were noted.

05-up trucks also had a snap-to-connect high pressure oil fitting on the pump that blows apart, original fix was a bracket and new fitting, now the new fix is a one-piece fitting.

Ideally, i think the best truck would be an 03 or 04.5 truck with a round style Garrett EGR cooler, and the screw-in stand pipes and branch tubes on the high pressure oil system.

I did head studs in one last week with almost 100k miles on it, and it had NEVER had a warranty repair done on it. 2004 with a 2003 motor in it (early built 04 truck).

Default simple answer

Buy the ford juck, the 6.0 and install a cummins. You will have the best of both worlds. Not to mention dodge guys scratching their head as you rumble by. I love it.
