Default Ford 6.0 need advice

Hi, I have a 2006 f350 6.0 and I just got it back from a local diesel shop and I’m still having problems with it. Two problems.
1. My vgts aren’t working correctly at idle When I first got it back vgt was 40% idle and would close when I would accelerate to like 60% then sometime when I started it it would cycle the vgts from 15% to 84% now when I start it it goes to 84% but will only open to 70% WOT and has turbo flutter.. EBP tube is not clogged and the epb sensor is new I did try to put another new ebp sensor on just in case mine was faulty and it dropped my vgt to 14% and stayed there

2. Cold start very laggy start up but idles smooth. Warm start it starts good but has a rough idle smooths out when I accelerate.. I’m just at a loss been taking it to mechanics for the past year and every time I get it back after thousands of dollars I’m not happy with it and the problems are never all fixed so any help/advice would be greatly appreciated TNA

What work did they do at the shop?

Has the turbo ever been cleaned?

Is the EBP sensor an OEM sensor or aftermarket (I have had issues w/ aftermarket sensors)?

P0472 is an EBP sensor or connector code.

I don't know it it is the problem, but I don't like aftermarket sensors. They have been known to cause issues.

Disconnect it and see how it runs.

Yeah that’s how I’ve been running it when I disconnect it vgt is 40 idle and it kind bounces around from 55 to 34 when I accelerate I’ll stop by ford dealer tomorrow and pick up an oem sensor .. I just replaced the pig tail for it 2weeks ago.. any idea on what would cause the laggy start when cold idles smooth when cold and cranks over normal when warm but erratic idle? Or do think think all the problems could be from that ebp sensor?

The code says you have an EBP wiring issue or a sensor issue. Hard to tell which over the internet.

Usually you tell if the sensor is the issue by disconnecting it, If it runs better disconnected, then the sensor was causing problems.

btw - the vanes are in the commanded open state at 15% duty cycle. At 85% they are in the commanded closed state

Ok update got a OEM ebps and it out my vgts at 14% so maybe it’s could be a bad VGT solenoid?
Also the rough idle has been getting worse and today it shut off on me and now I have crank no start...

What are you using to pull codes? Some code readers aren't real thorough at the job and so you may have codes you aren't aware of.

Do you still have a functional EGR system? A rough idle and the engine shutting down sounds more like an EGR issue (or an injector issue) than a turbo issue,

It is possible that the VGT solenoid is not working, or the connector is too loose to operate correctly.

The "crank no-start" troubleshooting approach is to pull the following data when cranking:
cam/crank sync
FICM sync
cranking rpms (note - 150 rpm cranking is needed to start)
FICM MPower
FICM LPower
FICMVPower
ICP pressure
ICP sensor voltage
IPR % duty cycle
v-reference voltage

It would also be good to see the KOEO data for EBP, Baro, and MAP.

Yeah I found the crank no start issue I hope this is all it is but the was metal down in my lpop orders a new one was makes me upset is the guy that just worked on my truck just changed the lpop 2weeks ago and it idled smooth when I got it back but it just kept getting worse and worse changed the oil took it for a drive and got back home and it just shut off... I’m just worried about where the hell the metal is coming from?? Also before it shut off I did get an oem ebp sensor and plugged it in and vgt went strait to 14% and wouldn’t move so do you think it’s a bad turbo or just a bad vgt solenoid

truck is deleted and studded
