Default Calif. smog check

Hi all,
About 3 weeks ago I went in for a smog check, and was very surprised that I did not pass.
Under hood inspection-Pass, smoke test-Pass,PCM monitors-not ready ? If you disconnect your battery it clears the memory and has to relearn your driving parameters, OK no problem I will just drive it and bring it back. 250 miles later,no go. 500 miles later no go. I forgot to mention I have a code reader so I didn't have to bring it in every time. So iI did some research and found this ;
There are drive cycles that can be performed intended to help induce the proper conditions and driving modes to allow the OBD Monitors to run and complete which once done should clear the P1000 code indicating the system is ready. Then you should pass the smog test provided there are no codes in the system related to emissions. Here is the drive cycle you need from the 2007 WSM for the 6.0L PSD.

On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) Drive Cycle

Description

NOTICE: Strict observance of posted speed limits and attention to driving conditions are mandatory when proceeding through the drive cycle.

Note: Vehicles equipped with power take-off (PTO) or auxiliary idle control must have that system disengaged before the OBD drive cycle is initiated.

The primary intention of the OBD drive cycle is to clear the DTC P1000 and to satisfy the specifications for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) specification J1979. Each OBD monitor must run during the drive cycle.

If the drive cycle is completed and P1000 is not cleared, repeat the entire drive cycle. If a particular step is interrupted, simply repeat the drive mode. If the drive cycle is interrupted with a key-off, only drive modes that were incomplete must be run.

Rough road conditions may prevent certain steady state conditions and steady accelerations from validating the transmission and load-related monitors.

Drive Cycle Procedure:

Key ON. Do not crank until the WAIT TO START light cycles, or at least 10 seconds, whichever occurs first.
Start the engine. Idle in PARK or NEUTRAL for 40 seconds.
Before continuing, engine oil temperature (EOT) must exceed 60°C (140°F).
The following outlines the appropriate conditions for running certain OBD monitors that require the engine to be under load:
Accelerate steadily to third gear (M/T use fourth gear) and hold at 1,500 RPM for 3 seconds. Accelerate steadily from 56 km/h (35 mph) to 105 km/h (65 mph) over approximately 15 seconds (M/T 11 seconds minimum).
Repeat Step 4.a. three times while maintaining the conditions in Step 4.a.
Before proceeding, turn all accessories off and disengage tow/haul/overdrive cancel.
Idle the vehicle for 20 seconds in PARK or NEUTRAL.
Key OFF.
Start the engine. Idle in PARK or NEUTRAL for 40 seconds.
Repeat the Quick Test.

Note: If P1000 is present after running the drive cycle:

Repeat Step 4.a., being certain to maintain a minimum mass fuel desired (MFDES) of 35 mg/stroke above 2,000 RPM for 11 seconds. Also, maintain a minimum MFDES of 30 mg/stroke above 2,800 RPM for at least 6 seconds.
Repeat Step 8. MFDES must remain below 12 mg/stroke for 11 consecutive second.

So I tried this 4 times with no luck. I decided to call CARB ( Calif. Air Resource Board) they told me that there was most likely a build up of carbon in the EGR ports and that was causing the EGR monitor to not pass And to add cetane booster to the fuel and then drive it like I stole it.
I didn't mention that I took it to Ford on my first attempt and they told be that they could do nothing and that I had to drive it and it was not unheard of that some prople had to go 1000 miles before all the monitors were recognized.
I also forgot to mention that I have a 4000 Lb. camper on the back that I would rather not have to remove.
I haven't tried the recommendations of CARB yet but will keep all posted. In the meantime any help would be appreciated.

After I put over 1000mi. with no luck I found a dealer that was willing to look at it. It turned out to be a corrupt program in the PCM. It had fault code P0487 , "EGR throttle position, and the vehicle is not equipped with EGRTP". Drove it 50mi. and had it smog tested
passed with no problem.

Glad to hear that. In this state they keep changing the rules on us!
