Long(ish) start up....Is it normal???
It takes a couple seconds to start up the truck, I know it's nowhere near as long as some trucks out there but just wondering if this is normal. I heard many different possiblities such as the FICM, HPOP, Injectors, and glow plugs.
My question is should I be concerned or no??? Also any idea why I get a puff of black smoke on start up? The truck does have bigger injectors and a bigger turbo if that has anything to do with it. (175/75 Injectors and Barder Stage 2.5 Turbo)

That is perfectly normal, a couple things have to happen before the pcm will allow the injectors to open. Once cranking it syncs the cam and crank position sensors, commands the ipr closed and builds 500 psi of high pressure oil, then injects fuel and fires. Your truck is simular to both of mine.

fords says 5 seconds or less and if you get to where it won't start on the first crank.you have a drain back issue which causes a pro longed start.the black poppet valve, the brass check valve it has the by pass right beside it but is in a seperate channel where the oil first comes in and also the low pressure regulator could also be stuck partially open.
