what kinda oil does everyone use

I bought my '06 new; I used Valvoline Blue Extreme 5W40 from 500 miles to 60,000 miles. It worked fine for me until about 45,000 miles, when I started getting fuel injector stiction. For the next 25,000 miles I tried a lot of things; here's what I concluded:
- Most importantly, changing your oil every 7500 miles is not good; I changed my oil every 7500 miles from 500 to 60,000. I believe this is the main reason I began getting stiction at 45,000 miles. You must stick to a change interval of 5,000 miles.
- Using a good oil additive helps; I started using Archoil 9100 friction modifier at 60,000 miles and still use it every oil change.
- Using a fuel additive that increases lubricity and also increases cetane is a must on the 6.0 diesel.
- Using a fuel additive that prevents gelling is absolutely necessary below 20 F. And if you wait til the temps get down to 20 F, it's too late. You need to add the anti-gel when the temps are above 30 F. Pay attention to the Weather reports, because once it gels, adding anti-gel doesn't help; at that point you need to add something like Diesel Service 911; the one in the red bottle.
I now have 120,000 miles and after a lot of playing around with a few different oil additives I settled on Archoil 9100. Oh, and by the way, I don't have fuel injector stiction any more, and I haven't changed my injectors. They are original and I believe I can run them to 200,000 miles or beyond.
I also realized that using 5W40 is not mandatory for keeping the engine clean. Don't get me wrong, I think, it's the best oil to use, however, the single most important thing is to change your oil at 5,000 miles and use a good oil additive.
To save a little money, I use 15W40 in the summer and 5W40 in the winter.
When the temps get down below 20 F, my truck is harder to start ( it cranks over slower with 15W40). When the temps get down below zero, my truck has a very hard time starting with 15W40. I can start it at -10 F when I use 5W40. Rotating between the 2 oils (5W40 in the winter and 15W40 in the summer) and using Archoil 9100 additive seems to work well for me. This combination addresses hard starts in the winter as well as keeping my injectors clean.

I usually run 5-40 synthetic Rotella. Went extended change intervals (10,000 mi.) only to get stiction issues at about 80,000 miles. I used HotShot Secret to relieve stiction issues and return to good! Since then I've used the Rotella 5-40 with rev x and no issues at 7,500 mile changes. Recently I changed hpop (215,000 miles) due to just wearing out. I hear 03 pumps normally fail at 100,000 so I got a lot of life from it. My injectors are original, but I'm sure tired. I used 15-40 after pump, it was free and I wanted to do 2500 mile oil change in case I got anything inside when I did pump. Got cold here and of course hard starting and rough cold starts. ( I usually cannot plug in and I run plow truck so I have to start in any weather). So I changed back to 5-40 but I'm using Delo as recommended by dieselsite and am happier. I wanted to try 58v bulletproof ficm and after one day , WOW! Runs like its warm within one minute @ freezing temps! Would recommend 5-40 and additive for oil and anti gel for fuel. Definitely recommend dieselsite pump and bulletproof ficm too!

I got my 6.0 liter with 112K miles on her. I used Rotella T5 and it seemed to work ok, till winter. I noticed when it was really cold out here in the Seattle area, say 20 deg F, I would have stiction issues when it was really cold. But it would go away for the most part. I changed my oil to Synthetic T6, the entire problem went away. I change my oil every 5000-7500 miles.
