Default No coolant in over flow, Some bubbling

Hello

I pulled a boat the other day and when I came to a stop I noticed I could smell hot antifreeze. Opened my hood and there was coolant that had leaked out of my radiator cap. The tank was also bubbling a bit with what little coolant was in there. My temp gauge read normal and had no runability issues? I have done some reading and it sound like it could be egr cooler or oil cooler is plugged? Poss head gaskets? Anyone have any advice? What should I check first? How do I test oil temp vs coolant temp? Anything else to look for? Thanks

Did your degas bottle or a hose leak externally or did your engine consume the anti freeze? What mods have you done? I'm waiting for my scan gauge II from bulletproof diesel, supposed to give you the info you are asking, looking forward to seeing it since I'm pretty sure I wore out my hpop. Normally head gaskets will show a white smoke out of exhaust. Get temp variation between oil and coolant next.

Well some of the antifreeze leaked out the cap. The engine is stock with custom innovative diesel tune and 5" exhaust straight pipe.

Probably need to make or get one of those head gasket testers, check on youtube there's a guy on that show you how to do it.

first off just to knock out the little stuff go buy yourself a new cap. i did hg/egr delete and a oil cooler all at once to bullet proof my motor just to find out my cap (which is suppose to hold 16psi) was only holding 4 psi cause the spring was so worn. did everything. sprayed antifreeze the first time i towed. thought i messed up the hg install (did it myself) and a 18 dollar cap later i was good to go

I ordered a Scangauge 2 last week. The coolant cap it pretty new but I am going to do a coolant pressure test on the overflow line and test EOT vs ECT once I get the scangauge. I am going to take the next step once I do both of those test. Thanks for the relpy guys!!!

So I hooked up the scan gauge 2 and just cruising down the highway my eot ggot too hot. EOT 230 ECT195. The coolant pressure only got up to 12psi max. So that tells me its not the cap anyways? Not sure about head gaskets? Any Idea what is the next best step?

Thermostat? Clogged radiator? Easy stuff first

Sounds like weak cap spring lack of pressure roached head gaskets thus the bubbling temp gauge isnt hot bc head gaskets have a relatively small leak

So I did a bunch of testing. I got my scan gauge 2 and that told the tail that my oil cooler is plugged. I had deltas 30* plus just cruising down the highway. I also checked presure of my coolant system as I was doin the EOT vs ECT test and it never broke 12 psi. Think the bubbles were from a hot spot on the egr cooler because it was restricted coolant flow. I have done a lot of reading. I want to do this project myself. Has anyone done oil cooler and egr delete? Whats parts did you use? Also anyone have a link on flushing the cooling system and best products to use?
