No power when cold
As the weather started to cool I noticed that I had no power or passing gear when I first start the truck up. It really started to get worse the colder it got. When the engine warmed up after a few miles of driving it seemed to gain it's power or passing gear. I took it to a shop and the said it was my FICM and had it changed out. The problem is still there but now with the engine cold I can't pull my boat out of the boat ramp. I have to wait until the engine warms up a bit to get it out of the ramp and them it is really struggling. A few miles down the road when the engine temp is warm it runs fine.
The truck starts fine with no smoke and it idles normal. However while troubleshooting when the engine is first started (cold) the engine won't go over 3000 rpms when I floor it. In gear with parking brake on about 1500 rpms and sounds bogged down. 2004 6.0 140,000 miles

Exactly. O3 work truck was hard start when it got cold. Cleaned up turbo, got more boost=more compression=vroom.

Hi guys i just bout a 2005 f250 and it wont start either, little greyish white smoke when spinning. icp pressure is 1100-1400, ipr% is 30-55 and FICM voltage is 46-48 during injector clatter and while cranking. FICM is syncing also. dont really understand what my problem is just updated to the blue spring kit for fuel pressure regulator yesterday seems to be getting plenty of fuel pressure to heads. im a john deere deisel mechanic 8 years experience but this engine just dont make sense what its doing. any suggestions? thanks.

yea but hpop is working properly and fuel press. seems to be fine, i have the scan gauge and it shows all these pressures and percentages for icp ipr, ficm voltage etc.... you think it is just a glow plug issue? couldn't i just plug the block heater up all night and then that would be sufficiant enough wouldnt it?

You still need heat in cylinders. Intake heater, glow plugs, etc. I have a snap on solus that will do a test on the glow plug module. Try plugging it in. It should still fire if the plugs work. They are in sparkplug locations on heads.

ok i know someone with snap on motis I think thats what it is, even if the outside temp is around 60 deg. F i still need glow plugs? it might not crank but i think it should. its trying to hit but just will not start. like i said little smoke from tailpipe but just wont start. ill try to test the glow plug module or couldnt i screw them out and plug them back up to see if they get hot when you turn the key on?
