6.0 teardown for headgaskets/possible flat cam lobe or bad lifter
Hello everyone,
So I've got my valve train and heads off gonna get them looked at by a machine shop for warping and cracks. I was told by the ford truck center that I had a bad lifter or flat cam because my truck was thunking out of my cold air intake filter. I've been told thunking is normal but the truck center was almost positive that there was a major issue. It was in to get diagnostics due to a lack of power and bucking from a bad injector. they said it passed relative compression so I swapped the injector and ofcourse next I got egr/oil cooler failure. I let that go too long and blew a head gasket so here I am. I didn't do a cab off because I thought I was just doing the heads but now it sounds like im going to have to pull the block out if I need to do the cam. I haven't check the magnet in the oil pan but that's what im checking as soon as im off work. does anyone know if the thunking out of the intake is definitely a bad lifter or flat cam or could it be a stuck valve. if the cam needs to be done ill have to pull the remainder of the block and take it to my shop. I don't have that much confidence in myself to do a cam job so any thoughts or advice is much appreciated.
thanks,
Brandon
