HA! Well apparently not the turbo. Turbo specialist says not possible given symptoms. So as of this minute truck finally in the garage and the EGR is again the main suspect.
While I wait going to check out Dodge pricing, seems where I live registered farmers get a 12K price reduction on any and all dodge trucks. Need to know if this is on top of other Dodge offerings. If so, could be too attractive to pass on.

your op is starting to scare me,how inthe world could it be a turbo problem???? these turbos have no coolant going through them and cannot affect the cooling system unless the EGR cooler is ruptured. there is a easy test to see if it is head gasket or egr cooler.you take the cap off degas bottle and put a plug in it that has a hose going through the center of it, you put the hose in a clear jar of water and watch the bubbles, then unplug the egr valve and see if the bubbles go away or get noticably smaller. if unplugging the egr valve makes a difference then it is most likely ruptured. unless you are in Cali. delete the egr cooler. I wouldn't trust any shop that would "replace" a cooler instead of deleting it.

WHAT TO DO!!?? So not the turbo charger, finally traced back to the EGR (guess what? off warranty from last replacement) Shop wants to 1)EGR 2)Oil intercooler3)replace quick disconnect ?while its apart4)all new filters5)flush systems6)send turbo out for service ie cleaning. So if I don't do it am left with truck with engine apart. Bill about $3500 plus tax @ 13% Saw link to aftermarket parts "life" guarantee. Do you recommend them? Once it is all together do I trust it to run for a couple of years or do I dump it and go have a beer or two?Sorry, I've gone on long enough

Do you live in California?? if not do a egr delete, all reputable shops should tell you the same thing, the egr system is under sized for this motor and will always be a problem. If you can turn a wrench then you can do this yourself for around $700 including a coolant filter to prevent it from happening again. I put my suggestion in your other post. I would go to that shop and pick it up, just unplug the EGR valve so no coolant goes past it,might a little but not too bad to get you home. the oil cooler rebuild kit is anywhere from $250 to $350 depending on where you buy it, egr delete is around $150-250 a coolant filter setup is around $130, the updated STc fitting for 05 and later trucks is $38-highly recommend if not already done, updated standpipes and dummy plugs for late 04 and up trucks $102, also highly reccomend as preventive maintinance. then you are set, it will be nice and reliabl and if you realy want to ensure a trouble free future then send out your FICM for repair while the truck is down even if it is good now the epair will prevent it from being a problem later. If you are average with tools you could do this in a weekend and save a ton of money, a helper is always handy. You can clean the turbo yourself, there are some videos on youtube how to do it ,it's real easy.

Ok, so getting my mind around this thanks to all of you. Great group all, really nice of everyone to take the time to put up with all my questions. Even told my garage guy he should join up. Will post a quick note when I have he on the road again just to let you know what was done and how she is running.
Thanks again, really really enjoy the site

Hi All... wanted to again thank everyone for their suggestions and comments. I'm not particularly mechanically inclined and probably don't have the correct tools to fix things myself as may suggested. Therefore had the shop do it. Cost was $2800 tax included. Was the EGR and Intercooler!! Also did clean up of turbo at the same time. Eliminating the EGR was not possible as new regulations here require computer hook up and if anything shows to be wrong your truck is off the road until repaired. So no longer a simple emissions test. It does run great and easily pulls the horse trailer. Now about !200 bucks in new tires , a safety inspection and we're good for the show season.
Thanks again all, just a great site.
Regards
Jim

EGR cooler and Oil cooler?? the glogged oil cooler is what makes the EGR cooler go bad and to prevent it from happening again add a coolant filter, its easy to do and no special tools.

3)replace quick disconnect ?

If this guy said you need this, is he taking you for a ride?

Do late 2004's have the quick disconnect?

I thought this started in 2005...I would check around before I let this guy charge me for this.

so today i started to get water out of the exhaust and pulled the egr sensor and it was wet in there, i just purchased a dorman egr cooler since im strapped for cash, my question is how bad will it be to drive like this for at least another day? and is this hopefully my only issue? i hear the oil cooler can be bad which causes the egr to go bad too????
