6.0 long block how long to remove and replace
#2
Pull all the coolers off the front, remove the top brace for the radiator. Jack up the motor & remove the motor mounts completely, then drop the motor so that the oil pan rests on the cross member; this will give enough room to get your hand in to undo the bell housing bolts.
Good luck.

The other option is to lift the cab. It's not as hard as it seems; but you need a hoist.

I made a lifting plate that bolts up to the 4 turbo pedestal mounting holes and one oil cooler mounting hole in the block to hook the engine lift to, there is a guy that sells a lifting plate on ebay if interested. Once you have the engine up a little just unbolt the AC pump and the power steering pump and let them sit, that way you don't have to have it recharged after the job is complete, also be careful of the factory torque converter nuts, they are short and easy to strip if you are not on them properly. We remove the top trans bolts from the top after removing the turbo/intake/oil cooler/and rear heat shield. Unbolt the Ypipe at the exhaust manifolds,it helps so you can remove the heat shield easier. we can have a motor out in 5 hours and if we were replacing the whole motor then we could probably do it in one long day. this is in a home garage without a vehiecle lift, we use a engine lift from harbour freight.

thanks for the info, this will save me the next time i do one again. I already changed it out and was wondering if there was a flat rate time to bill my customer. I know that i have more time in it than is required so i didnt want them to feel like I was ripping them off. I did the cab removal way, i was wondering if pulling the front core support would allow for engine removal. thanks next time i give that a shot.
