Serpentine Belt Replacement

Serpentine Belt Replacement
To all of you that own a 6.0 and have never replaced the belt. I used the belt tensioner tool(a 1/2" drive wrench with a long handle) and took the belt off the alternator. From here I was able to remove the entire belt without taking off anything on the truck. This is just a post to WARN you off all the other posts stating the fan, fan shroud, radiator, wires?? and all these other parts have to come off. NOTHING NEEDS to come off. Yes it was a terrible time trying to figure out the configuration after it was off being that most 6.0 Serpentine diagrams are extremely misleading. Just posting this to be helpful to others.
Easiest way to route the belt was by starting with the crank pulley, doing the drivers side then passengers side. I also pulled the belt from the bottom up through the tensioner "may have not been the easiest way but it worked", then attached to alternator. NOTE: I have a single alt. truck and dont know anything about the double besides that it has a separate belt.

with the single alt you don't even need any tools, there is a clip on the tentioner that will hold it into place/ pull on the belt and push clip into position to hold the tentioner then replace belt and pull on it again to release the clip.

if you loo at the tentioner you will see a little metal clip that is hinged, you push that clip in and it holds the tensioner

I couldn't agree more with the tensioner trick. It works great if you can pull the belt that hard and reach down and push the tab upward. I found the best way is to grab the belt with a rag or towel and have a buddy push the tab up. I also have the tool they make, I hate it . The hardest part was routing the belt IMHO.

I am with all the others in you do not remove any parts to change the belt, but I do like the tensioner lock and use a 3/8 inch ratchet to move the tensioner and lock the tab. I just find it easier then trying to pull the belt. I start on the passengers side top feeding the belt down and working my way around to the driver side. Found that way the first time in a camp ground and it takes me about 10 minutes to change. I have changed mine 2 times now and several others for other people that needed help.
