Default oil pressure

Havent been on here in quite awhile . 03 f250 148, 000 miles. Last year have done batteries, icp, ipr, hpop, 3 injectors and ficm. Due for an oil change and filter changes. But my question is about my oil gauge. Whenever driving it is normal. But when I stopped today it dropped to no pressure. Not sure what if its the pump or the dealer said possibly a sending unit. But when I put it in neutral and gave a little throttle to raise rpms it went back to normal. Dropped twice on me only when sitting. Got home and put it in park and let it idle for about 5 min and it never dropped down. So kind of confused.

If the hpop was out would the truck run? I think he was talking about his low pressure oil system pressure.

1st Diesel, can you clarify that for us? Are you talking about your regular oil system pressure or high pressure system?

If it is the regular oil system, and it was actually dropping to zero the HPOP would not be getting oil, and the injectors would be unable to cycle, so the truck would stall out when the oil pressure dropped to zero. The same would happen if the high pressure oil system dropped to zero psi.

Sounds like the sending unit to me.

Ive seen several do this but, only the early style 6.0 like 03-04. One in particular was pulled from a dealer and brought to the shop I was at. Guy had paid over 3k to get it fixed, ford dealer had the engine scattered and couldnt figure it out. He brought the truck to us in boxes. The dealer ddnt even help him pack all his stuff out. Needless to say one very pissed guy and pending lawsuit. Truck will still run, hpop bleeds off pressure in the oil resevoir faster than the low pump can fill it at idle but once rpm is raised the low pump is able to supply more oil. I wouldnt discard basic checks but i would look to hpop before you start throwing alot of money at it.

Im referrig to the low pressure system. The high is good. Otherwise with a bad leak or the hpop going out the truck wouldnt run.I already replaced the hpop less than a year ago.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

The high pressure oil pressure doesnt affect the gauge. Only the low pressure affects the oil pressure gauge

I think you are missing what Im saying, the hpop was the cause of the low pressure problem. IF it sounds crazy to you I understand. That ford tech ddnt understand either wich is why they put on a new oil pressure sensor, low press. oil pump and relief valve wich ddnt fix the truck so they pulled the engine out and started tearing it completely down all on the customers dollar. Maybe youll get lucky and have a bad oil press. sensor but, only prob ive seen with those is usually they break and start pouring oil out of the top of the connector. Like I said dont discard your basic checks but, check your high side for a leak before you start spending money. check the hpop and double check it especially around the pump shaft seal.

You might want to get a T fitting and put in a mechanical guage to confirm your loss of pressure. could be as simple as a sticky oil pressure regulator at the oil pump on front of motor.
