I don't know if theres a sticky but most come with directions search the diesel power magazine sight they have a few good write ups on how to do studs, oil cooler and such I can do a complete kit of coolant filter, egr delete, oil cooler and all the coolant flush in about 12-14hr the egr delete is cake walk when it comes time to o it post back cause there are a few little tricks to make it go faster and smoother

I was quoted Usually averages 20mpg by the seller. I call BS on this...anyone like to add their experiences with mpg on a 6 liter?
I am also looking at a 2001 Dodge diesel. I've heard they get decent fuel mpg? My only concern is that I have two kids 2yrs old and 10 yrs old. The ford has much more room!

First thing would be yes to obviously check to see if the truck has been bulletproofed in all the 6.0l ways but adding the tune isnt gonna make it worse on fuel, that will only be if you cant keep ur foot out of it. I have a FICM tune on my truck and the SCT livewire TS with custom tunes from innovative and i'm getting upwords of 17.5 MPG on the highway with the lifted truck and on 35's i just took a trip to new hampshire and back and i averaged out at16 doing the math at the pump. Some people on here are "quite interesting"to say the least when it comes to MPG they will say the only true way to get the MPG are through the math at the pump. BUT WAIT! those numbers at the pump are literally an AVERAGE its not what your trucks getting for economy its an average for the whole trip between going up hill downhill and taking off. It's just something that bugs the **** out of me how simple minded some people can be. Don't believe the hype about the "lie-O-meter"

I don't give a rats *** about mileage I bought a truck for one reason if I wanted milage I'd a bought a car my truck sits for weeks on end then is started and warms up for 10 minutes and when it is driven I either have a trailer on it or something I can't fit in my Yukon besides were I live 70% of the population owns diesels cause were a logging community with a population of less than 1000 in the mountains were its 20+ miles to the nearest town

I do care about milage to an extent, hell, I commute 40 miles to and from work every day...80miles round trip. Wife does not work, so every penny counts! However, I've never owned a vehicle that got better than 22mpg. I have heard the dodges can get up to 21mpg on the freeway. Not bad, however the rear seat is way too small on the extended cabs so they are out
Now for the fuel mpg question. Looking at another 6 liter that has a 4 inch lift and 6.0L Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel, 5 Speed Automatic, Overdrive Transmission, tires are 315/75R16in Tires. What kind of fuel milage will a truck lifted like this one average...not looking for exact, but an average guestimate. This may not be the truck for me..maybe???? maybe not??????
Thanks to everyone here helping me on the 6.0 decision. I went and looked at a really nice 2003 that was 4.5 hrs away. I foud a small oil leak on the inspection cover of the transmission that covered the torque converter. I could not find where the oil was leaking but there was a small amout of leakage. The second thing that concerned me was that the guy who owned it had put new coolant in the truck, however, no coolant was in the resivor which made me beleive that there was some sort of leak. I suspected a possible head gasket problem, however, it did not smoke under a load or startup. Third, the 4x4 did not engage while it was in auto mode. Then I tried to manually lock the hubs, drivers side would not turn by hand until I used a pair of pliers. Then it worked. I suspected a bad hub?
I passed on the truck becasue of possible head gasket problems due to low coolant, tires, 4x4 issues, and the leak of trans fluid

really? I was second guessing myself all the way home! I love the truck, it has a nice canopy too, but the low coolant got me on the sayNA side. I know it was only a few drips of trans oil, but a small leak means that there is a leak somewhere! Crap, I really liked the truck

Really? Man, I really liked this truck...one car owner, FICM was replaced @ 40K mi, consistant oil changes and all. However, the low coolant (none in the resivor ) lead me to beleive that a possible coolant leak was going on. The truck did not have any white smoke upon accleration or start up. A little black smoke, maybe grey from fuel, but not coolant. She ran like a charm, really did. When I added all things up, the small trans leak under the inspection cover, tires, low coolant and the 4x4 not working intially pushed me away.
What's up with the 4x4 hub sticking?
Low coolant...kind of figured the worst thing but it could have been that they did not fill it up all the way...but I did not want to take a $12K chance!
Tires = 1K
Trans oil under the inspection cover = problem never addressed or recognized.
Thoughts on the 4x4 hub sticking? Once I turned it by hand and back to auto, it worked fine?????
OH yea, MPG is kind of important to me so what about the 04 with a 4 inch lift? comparison of MPG?

Forgot to ask,
Is it normal for the coolant resivor to be completly empty on these trucks? I have never seen an empty coolant resivor on my duramax, yet my commuter's coolant resivor is always empty & the radiator is full. I tasted the oil on the truck I looked at today and it was not sweet like coolant and oil mixture, the truck did not produce white smoke when I put my foot into the throttle. Nothing other than the missing coolant to make me suspect something is not right...
The hub sticking. The drivers hub would not move to manual unless I used a pair of pliers to move it. The 4x4 did not engage when it was in auto. Once I forced the hubs into 4x4, then put them back to auto, the truck did engage into 4x4 without missing a beat. Is this a sign of a hub going bad?
I'm just wondering if I have over looked something or was too type A? The coolant, heck, my toyota never has coolant in the resivor. The ford had a High and low marking on it and the fact that it was empty concerned me enough not to pull the trigger on this truck.
