Ok, the seller said that occasionally when the truck sits for 3 days or more there will be a puff of blue smoke upon start up? Should I be co concerned about this? On a gas engine I would suspect Valve guides. On a diesel, I have no clue

Debends how much blue smoke isn't a good sign weather its a little or a lot it represents oil in the cumbustion chamber I let my truck sit for weeks on end and it doesn't puff any sort of smoke perious unless its below freezing and even then its minimul

I know when I bought my truck when I cold started it idles rough and kinda smoked but two new injectors and some rotella 5-40 full synthetic t6 oil its a whole new truck I know now I wouldnt trade me truck for the 500 hp ford Cummins I sold for this 6.0.l

I found an 03 with 135K miles. What trans does this have? Also, no start problems...other than the FICM, are there other common problems with the 6L SD's? I"ve seen a lot of post where they don't start when hot, don't start problems?

Thanks guys, my silverado is sold Love the truck, but too many miles....250K

If its an auto its the 5r110 quick is a good tranny holds decent power in stock form way better than the dodge trannys I would be to concerned about the ficm if the truck has good batterys the ficm should hold as far as no starts either sct fitting or high oil psi leak I know a guy who bought an 05 new and it has 220k on it and hasn't had a single issue yet other than an occasional injector replacement but he did studs, egr delete and coolant filter out of the gate and he tests the batterys every year

What's up with the turbos on these 6 liters? I"m looking at a few 2003-2004's with 140K miles, my price range A buddy of mine at work has an 04 and he had some warrnty issues replaced including the turbo. He said something to the exten that they have a different turbo system, hi pressure/low pressure where Oil activates the turbo at higher boost? Never heard of this system. I have rebuild the turbo on my GMC Typhoon and that turbo is pretty easy to rebuild. From the sound of it, the 6 liter turbo sounds fairly compicated??? I just sold my Silverado...I miss that truck but with 256k mi, time to sell her and on to a ford. I had an 02 F250 gas & I liked how that truck drove....felt like a truck!

I have been inside them, very straightforward to work on. There is even a upgrade kit now avail , you can do yourself. It increases the compressor side and new bearing. Mine is stock, 190000 miles and fine. The variable vanes in some get dirty or rusty and stick but I fixed a few at friends farm with basic hand tools. I would recommend these trucks, with upgrades ( as described on this site) egr cooler, studs, gaskets, oil cooler, and you will have very nice reliable truck. Read others posts here, these guys have done these mods and are kind enough to share what they learned. Look at your desired end product and mod accordingly as a sled puller or drag racer will be different from the tow vehicle.

Read it more indepth that's on the 03-04 and that only happens f you remove the egr valve completely any egr deletes I do on pre05 trucks I leave the egr valve in place ans plugged in and never had a truck come back yet

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Also you can buy egr deletes all day long for $100 if you look hard enough just make sure it comes with a new up pipe much nicer and cleaner kits

Thanks 94! That makes sence. So, is there a sticky of how to do the EGR delete and oil cooler? Also, how do you clean the veins out on the turbo once it is off the truck?

Thank you guys!
