limp mode tow/haul flashing

limp mode tow/haul flashing
i have a 2003 6.0 powerstroke bone stock with 250000 miles, it runs and shifts great when cold but when coolant temp gets to 178 - 182 degrees it goes to limp mode/ high idle and tow/haul starts flashing every time, even if i just let it sit and idle and dont touch anything!. i have a superchips tuner just for code reading and have p0683 676 678 and p1000 . i bought the truck not running and found that the main fcim plug was loose so i just ziptied that back in untill i find what this other problem is, i also saw that the icp sensor and pigtail are a little oily, can a icp sensor/ pigtail soaked in oil do this? i wiggled, jiggled and checked for chaffing on the wire looms and saw nothing
thanx in advance for any help!

thanx big man! ill try that in the morning

i tried disconnecting the icp, ran great until 178 degrees water temperature again, kinda thought it might have something to do with oil pressure, but it will do it at anytime, idling or up in the revs,(it did it at around 2600 rpms the other day) its just as soon as it gets to temperature...it just threw two codes today.. p2285 p1000, icp disconnected and i havent driven enough : does anyone know if my superchips 1704a max tuner reads the transmission codes? just couldnt imagine its the transmission because it shifts and does everything perfect until limp mode kicks in, and it will do it at idle in neutral without ever putting it in gear or the trans fluid even remotely warmed up , another thing,, it will stay in limp mode even if i disconnect batterys for half an hour and the water temp goes down to 100 degrees but the eng oil still feels warm,,,, maybe something with the oil cooler?? sorry about the long post!

It wont read trans codes, you need a good scanner like AutoEnginuity or Ford's IDS to do that. A basic code reader wont pick them up. Could be a solenoid sticking or could just be the trans on it's way out, the superchips certainly didn't help if you were running that, terrible for the trans.
Try finding someone with a high quality scanner to read what's up. Your p2285 is ICP too low, expected for driving around with the ICP sensor unplugged. I wouldn't really expect the truck to drive great with it unplugged, but idling in the driveway should be fine.
Usually when the tow/haul light starts flashing it's a certain sign of trans failure.

thanx mdub,,im going to take it to a trans shop tomorrow and get those codes. i only had the chip installed for about 2 miles of fun in the rain!, gotta say, the tranny shifts like a brand new one and the wierd thing is i dont have to put it in gear or anything to set limp mode, just seems to go off engine temp, but cant say much till i go to get the codes read.. thanx again!!

might be a stupid question...the tranny fluid looks and smells brand new,, but if the person that did the trans flush used the wrong oil, could that be a cause? that'd probably stick a solenoid up huh?

i couldnt get a chance to get the codes read still, but i dropped the trans pan, removed , cleaned, tested and ohmed out the solenoids, i found that the tcc solenoid was ohming out in between 5.3 and 10, but was so inconsistent, all the others were steady at 4.6 to 4.7 ( never checked the line pressure solenoid though because that seems to work and its a barstard to get out, i put it in the oven for a bit and it was going crazy, i couldnt get a set reading, just jumping all over the place , ill get a new one here in a bit and let ya's know
