Cylinder head question
Hey guys so i talk to my machine guy and he told me that about 90 percent of the 6.0 heads he has done for people he said have been cracked to the point that it aint worth fixing. So what im wondering is that if i do have to get new heads for my 2004 F250 what years can i use if i find a good use set.

03 to early 06 model year. when they changed to 20mm dowles they also changed the injector hold downs too so you have to watch what years you get.

Technically you can use any year head on any year block. You will need the correct sized gaskets to match the heads you have (18mm dowels or 20mm dowels). You will also need the corresponding injector hold downs, and I've been told the rocker boxes too, but I've also heard of guys using the incorrect rocker boxes and leaving all of the bolts out, and just letting the ARP studs hold them down.

ARP recommends not using the 10mm bolts at top of rockerboxes so it doesn't matter how many bolt holes they have, I still put the small bolts in but I put blue locktite on them and only torque to 10ft-lbs. The only real reason that rocker boxes make a difference depends on the type of oil rail you have, the early trucks with the "log" rail don't have the bolt bosses up top to hold the newer "pretzel" style oil rails. If you get Later model heads you will also have to purchase later model injector hold downs, mid 06 is when they changed them up.
