SUCCESS!! 03/6.0 IS RUNNING AGAIN AFTER TOP-END REBUILD: SLIDE SHOW
After many hair-pulling moments, this shade-tree mechanic has his faithful 6.0 running again and cannot be happier. My personal opinion is that this is basically a fine engine
cursed with a few curable shortcomings like headbolts, EGR etc. One of my greatest eye openers was to learn how many things use the engine oil to operate, and operate at very small tolerances. And the EGR creates lots of not-so-fine and very hard carbon particles. So, the big lesson here is : COMPARED TO OVERHAULS, ENGINE OIL AND FILTERS ARE CHEAP: CHANGE OFTEN. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING TO BE A CHEAPSCAPE ABOUT.
Some of my thoughts that may, or not, be useful can be seen in the

Many thanks to Bob and Karl and all the others who shared knowledge. Look me up and we'll have a beer.
Last but not least, many thanks to Mike at Diesel Outfitters (Diesel Outfitters - When the only mechanic you trust is yourself...) who does this all day long, supplied our upgrade parts and was always patient in answering this
6.0 newbie's questions. Thanks Mike.

The 6.0 can be intimidating at first but once you get into it you realise it is just a V8 and not too bad to work on. You hit it right on the head with the known problems too. The only thing that I do not like is that you have to remove the head to change a lifter, other then that I have no complaints.
