New Guy
Hello all. New to the site. My 06 6.0 that I have had for a few years was totaled in Hurrican Sandy by an oak tree. I wasn't going to get another 6.0, but, found one for sale here locally that looks really nice. It's an 07 lariat FX4. Everything looks brand new and it only has 34k. It is the original owner who says it hasn't had any mods and was used to pull his boat that he no longer has.
Trying to make up my mind whether or not to pull the trigger. It is only 3k more than I'm getting in insurance. The only issue I ever had with mine was the FICM was replaced under warranty.

Agreed. With that low of miles though... it sat a lot. Change fluids across the board, and plan on yanking the turbo to clean it for proper operation. You can always just try the old Italian tune up (heavy right foot) too. Typically if they sit a lot the vanes on the turbo rust and stick. Not really a huge deal, but just something you should be prepared to do. It can be done in an afternoon without issue.

How would you compare the one I've described to this one.
2008 Ford F350 Lariat $38k Blue Book IMMACULATE MUST SELL THIS WEEKEND
I am thinking about looking at this one too. I know some of the 6.4's had problems too.

I would however still consider buying a 6.0 to make into a weekend toy, only because of how cheap they can be had now due to idiots knowing nothing about them.

PRO: dumping the DPF allows for more hp and MPG.
CON: the extra hp usually means got ridden like a rented pony, esp if the seller is calling it a "chip". Why is it being sold?
I have also seen that The Man is getting pretty upset about all of the DPF deletes and is considering squashing the sale of any new DPF deleting programmers.
At the end of the day, I think that the low mileage 6.0 would be less of a headache.

I don't know how bad the lie-o-meter is, but my bud's stock 6.4L was showing 18 when we were cruising in it. If the DPF has been deleted you are looking at a double edged sword:

It's going to effect us too. SCT was handed a cease and desist letter last year, as well as Spartan. Edge and superchips voluntarily pulled offroad tuning last year, and H&S is the most recent one. I also noticed Smarty pulled their ME software (DPF off tuning) from their website the next day.
Obviously SOME of the companies are still getting around this and sending tunes out, apparently the custom tuning is so small they don't really catch on to it, at least that's the way it seems.
My 02 VW TDI had to be hooked up to the OBD system this year to pass inspection, it's the first year for diesels in NY to do this (upstate). They are requiring it for diesel vehicles 96 and newer, 8500 GVWR and less. So the truck still flies, but the car has to be plugged in... makes a lot of sense.
What does this all mean when shopping for a truck? 6.0 you probably wont have to worry about like these guys are saying, and 6.4 gets crummy mileage with the DPF on. karl, I can't believe your buddy is pulling 18 on a stock truck, highest I've seen is 15. Usually they're around 12-13 unloaded. 6.7's on the other hand... 18-20 isn't unheard of with all emissions equipment in place. So if you're really concerned about it, 6.7 is the way to go IMO.
