Default Egr valve trouble

I've recently purchased an 06 ford f250 regency bad lander with the 6.0. I haven't had the truck a full month yet and have had several problems. First when I bought it the check engine light was on so I had the dealership where I bought it from check it out. They said the egr was coked up so the cleaned it.
It ran good for about 2 weeks then the light came back on so I checked it out and the egr was bad again. This time I replaced it completly. After I replaced it I ran it for about 10 minutes and the light came off bet itself. I replaced it on a wens day and that Friday the check engine light came on again.
I returned to the dealership where I bought it and they said since I bought second hand they won't do anything.
I've been around Diesel engines most of my life but I dint know much about the 6.0
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure where you live, but most of us just opt for a full EGR delete.

Have you tried reading the codes, to make sure it's an EGR fault? The 6.0 definitely has it's issues, but you can work through/around them and make it quite a reliable truck actually.

Here's a good place to get a ton of info about your truck. Download the coffee table book and read up: DTS Articles - Coffee Table Books

Being that you have an 06, if you opt for the EGR delete, you'll need an SCT programmer with custom tunes to shut the light off. SCT is the best and safest option when it comes to tuning. If you don't want to add power at this time you can get a "stock" tune with the EGR function shut off, to keep the check engine light from coming on.

I would add a coolant filter ASAP, and I would start monitoring oil temp and coolant temp to see if the oil cooler needs to be rebuilt/replaced. This will save you a huge headache in the long run, as the oil cooler is the root cause of headgasket issues and blown egr coolers.

I just order an egr delete and a coolant filter. What other aftermarket products I can get to insure that I won't have any major problems with it.

ARP head studs is the next step... but quite a bit more work involved there. There's been some updated parts through Ford, which you'll see as you fumble around here, the biggest thing is the STC fitting on the high pressure oil pump, and the new stand pipes and dummy plugs in the oil rails, these parts are known to fail and will lead to hard hot starts and possibly even a no start condition. Parts are probably $150 or so, labor isn't too hard if you do it yourself, probably need an afternoon to do it.

You're going to need an SCT to keep the check engine light off with the delete too, just FYI.

STC is a Snap To Connect fitting. IRC, it was new for '05, therefore we don't have it on our 2003 trucks.
