04 4x4 auto trans problems
I have a 04 psd 4x4. Auto Transmission alot of times from a full stop will not shift back first gear. It acts as if it's trying to take of in second or third gear. You have to almost floor it and then it will go to low gear and takes off fine after
a huge jerk. This is just one of the problems it was at a full stop buck jumping teribble..motor wasn't surging just the tranny.Any thoughts?

Reverse and all the norm with a 6.0
It also slips when you put it in reverse. Also it delays forever to go into gear. Engine has a bad miss.Wont start half the time unless starting fluid is used which I know isn't good.

It also shutters when you first put it in reverse. Also it delays forever to go into gear. Engine has a bad miss.Wont start half the time unless starting fluid is used which I know isn't good.To sum it all up I did use a off brand oil and all the filters since the it was all they had at the parts store I had to use in the middle of nowhere last time i changed it.I recently changed a injector which showed bad. I had let a friend of mine change the tranny filter and he was suppose to change the oil but put back the old oil he said it was fine and stated it was some defect in the old filter.I had bought a case of SP but returned it.My freind has worked for ford for over 20 yrs but starting to guess his judgement. The miss is not like a injector bad it acts like a old gas eng. But only does it about half to 3/4 throttle. Maybe starving for fuel? No smoke at all.

I think you have two separate issues.
Mine used to shudder in reverse, I lost all gears not long after. There is a snap ring that comes apart in there and messes up reverse and direct drive (5th gear, which would feel like the shift to 4th for you). It is surely a sign that the trans is on it's way out. What do you use this truck for, these transmissions are quite stout. Generic programmers that don't tune the trans are usually the culprit, but I've destroyed one or two even with good tuning.
As for the stumbling etc... that's a separate issue. Put in a motorcraft oil filter before you do anything else, we've seen these exact symptoms caused by an oil filter alone. Seriously. Make sure you use a motorcraft or international oil filter and a factory OEM oil filter cap.
Then have your batteries load tested, if one is bad, replace both. Then test your FICM, the test procedure is at the top of the 6.0 page. If batteries and FICM test out, then let us know, we can give you the next step to checking things out.

Get rid of the filter that came with it's own cap ASAP. Use only the OEM cap and an OEM filter (motorcraft or international). The one's with their own cap don't seat right and sometimes will let oil completely bypass them or even let no oil in starving the motor. I've seen some so bad the truck wont even start because it can't get enough oil flow to build high pressure oil.
