Default Newby, first diesel.

Whats up guys

I just bought my first Diesel, a 2005 F350 6.0 Lariat. I was gonna stay away from the 6.0s but i got a great deal on it and its an awesome truck.

anyway, i just wanna get the best mpg i can get, so i figured an egr delete, intake, exhaust, and tune would get me there.

Ive had 2 different 500+ hp Lightnings but this is a whole new ballgame, so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Buying a 1 ton truck usually isn't the best way to get mileage haha.

Intake is a waste of money, stay with stock. Good 4" turbo back, and a custom tuned SCT (assuming you used something similar if you had 500+hp lightnings). EGR delete and a coolant filter would be good, you'll also want to check out the difference in temp between oil and coolant while driving to see if the oil cooler needs a rebuild. That will save you a HUGE headache.

Lol yea I know, but I already get better mph than I did with either lightning. Right now the display reads 13.5 mph, but I'm assuming thats an average between city and highway.

I've already got an sct xcal3, but I have to get it unlocked from my old truck.

I'll have to look into how to check the temps

Is an sct xcal 3 even compatible with a 350? Or does sct make a different tuner for diesel?

Nope, that one is fine. Just need to get specific tunes for your F350 now. A lot of use Innovative Diesel, Gearhead, GoGo, QuickTricks etc...

If you unlock it from your lightning you know you can't keep switching back and forth right? Did you sell the lightning? The tuner needs to be put back to stock, and then there needs to be "unlocks" left on the tuner.

Yea I sold the lightning, but kept the tuner. I just wasn't sure if it was compatible between vehicles

Yes sir. The X-cal3 just holds 3 custom tunes of any type. Just as long as you put the tuning back to stock on the lightning and have unlocks left, you should be good to go. Just give Innovative diesel a call up.

Well I sold the truck so I've gotta mail the tuner back to sct n pay to have them unlock it, if id returned my lightning to stock it would've self destructed itself

So who ever bought the lightning should have probably got the tuner eh? Haha. 150 I think for sct to reset it.
