Why does it take so long for my truck to warm up?

Well there is 15 quarts of oil it's trying to heat up there. and 7 gallons of coolant.
Have you tried reading codes to see if anything comes up? How old are your batteries? If you have no codes, I'd start with a load test on the batteries (places like advanced auto etc do this for free) then test the FICM. You can find the test procedure at the top of the 6.0 page.

The vanes on the turbo won't cycle until the engine is up to operating temp, so that could be part of your RPM issue. As for the long warmup, make sure your thermostat isn't stuck open. The reason it starts warming up once you're driving is because the engine has a load on it and has to work harder (hence why my buddy's truck warms up faster than mine in the morning even though we both have high idle engaged, his being an automatic locks up the convertor putting resistance on the engine) and yours has to work a LOT harder if the turbo isn't cycling yet.

If you have the factory upfitter switches (four switches down by the brake controller) you can do a 10 minute mod with one or two wire crimps and get yourself the high idle. So you put the parking brake on, flip the upfitter you've wired to, and it will jump to 1200 rpms and lock the converter to warm it up faster, and keep it warm. These trucks really shouldn't be idled for long times without it.
Can we get more info about the truck? Is it stock? Egr valve probably should be pulled and cleaned, that could the cause of your issues right there. Let us know what the other code is.

Ya I'm sorry. 2006 4door long wheel base 4x4. It's completely stock except the air cleaner. It has a K&N air box on it designed for the truck. That's it. What do I wire into the upfitter, and which upfitter because some hold more power than others? I will pull the egr and clean it. The batteries are not even a year old. Who can test the FICM? Sorry I'm a nearby to the newer style diesels.

Just do a Google search for "6.0 powerstroke high idle mod" you will get tons of results including YouTube vids. Very easy to do. FYI, upfitter 1 and 2 are 30 amp, and upfitter 3 and 4 are 10 amp.
What are you reading codes with? Did you try clearing it and driving it to see if they come back. I would expect a ton of issues if you had a U1900, including bouncing speedo, erratic engine idle possibly, other gauges not functioning right...
