To buy or not to buy? Please Help!
Ok guys here is the deal, ive been looking into buying a diesel for a while now. Im more of a cummins man and know my way around one, however i ran across a killer deal on a 2003 ford f250 with a bad ficm. After some talking to friends they all say heck no the 6.0 is crap and not worth it. The truck has 270,000 miles but recently had a new head gasket, arp head studs, 4in straight pipe, and a egr delete installed. The guy just wants pay off for it. The truck is in amazing shape and he is only asking 7,000.
Some research shows that with the 4" straight pipe, egr delete and new head studs, the truck should be fine? What are your alls opinion on it?

If he has proof that he had all that work done than it's probably a pretty good deal. I wouldn't be scared of a 6.0 anymore than any other truck. They all have their problems and cost money to fix, I work on all them they all break. This truck sounds like its all pretty much done it should be a good dependable truck. As far as the FICM goes I would take it into a shop and have them make sure thats it, because a bad FICM isnt the only thing that can cause a 6.0 to act like that

If the truck does not blow white smoke on a cold start and idles fine, no missing, does that mean i can rule out a bad injector, or injectors? Im trying my best to narrow down the problem, even if it does turn out to be injectors i still have no problem buying it, he will just have to come off the price a little bit. Its about and hour and a half drive to where the truck is, im hoping to make a trip monday or tuesday and test the FICM on the truck, im trying to hunt down a FICM from a friend i can borrow to see if that fixes the truck. If anyone has any advice to help me rule out injectors for sure then that would be great!
From my understanding if i was to put a computer on the truck and pull the codes, it should through a FICM code but also through codes for all the injectors as well correct, or does it only show that all the injectors are bad in some cases of the FICM being bad? Sense he has proof of the work that was done i feel fairly confident in it being a good deal. I will have to trailer this truck home unless i can find a FICM to borrow, if that does turn out to be the problem.
Also quick question, rumor has it that if a truck is ran with a bad FICM it can cause injectors to fail, is that true? Thanks guys your truly a big help! Lots of great info on this forum!
