Default Oil coolers stopped up. Opinions/advice?

Well I'm even more glad I got the sct cuz I plugged it in today to read the ect and eot and I was at 196 ect and 223 eot over the 15 degrees. Guess I'll start looking into that oil cooler egr delete sooner than I thought. I'm going to try a reverse flush and chem flush first, figure I have nothing to loose. Maybe it will at least buy me a little time to come up with the cash. Does anyone know what eot should be my max before I tear something up? Does it need to be parked now? Will the flush help or am I waiting my time? Truck has green coolant in it from when I bought it but I have no idea how long it's been there or if the gold was flushed correctly when removed. Got 144,000 miles on her now I've only had it for about 2500 or so. I'm sure a lot of this has been covered here or there but I couldn't find exact answers when I looked just the basic over 15 deg the oil cooler is clogging or clogged. Sorry if it's a repeat and thanks for the help you guys are awesome.

If that split was observed on a flat stretch at 65~70mph, you need to change your oil cooler. I was sitting on a 15~17* split (I saw 20* split on the highway through mountains), a flush didn't change anything. I'd recommend a coolant filter while you are in there, or shortly after the oil cooler is changed. There were some funky chunks in my filter when I changed it.

You can do it yourself, but it's gonna take a few days. Mine took me the better part 3 days, but I didn't have much help. I found several very helpful videos on You Tube that got me going in the right direction.

From everything I've seen flushing it out is only a short temporary fix. Most noticed temps going right back up very shortly after.

An oil cooler rebuild from Ford is $250... just saying.

Hey guys, I'm seeing the exact same difference with my scan gaugeII as well. I see guys talking about running different xgauge perameters that give them different readings... Any chance the number are not as accurate as we might think they are?

I guess anything is possible, this is exactly why I like stand-alone gauges and not the OBD plug in stuff. No questions.

It's a fact of life that if you look hard enough then you'll find what you are looking for. The only deviations I've seen in my SGII are degrees c/f.

Either way, do you reallly want to play Russian Roulette with your truck? It's a major PITA, but less than hg, injectors, and/or a smoked crank. It's not going to fix itself.

Man... I should go buy a lottery ticket... I knew Mdub would say that. Yes, I totally agree mechanical gauges are the way to go. Mama only tolerates so much tweaking on her baby wagon... The LLY can get any toy I can sneak into the shop!

By NO means was I condoning running hot oil or a bad cooler... I have at least 6 boxes of parts waiting for the excursion to go under the knife and an oil cooler is one of many. Thanks guys!

Believe me, there are days I would rather have the pod, but then when I feel overwhelmed looking at all those gauges, I just remember there are guys out there with more gauges than me! Joe AKA CSIPSD hahaha I think he's up to 17 in the cab now...

Yeah, but he has to call the flight tower before he pulls out of the driveway

Thanks guys I'm guess I'm gonna be riding the Harley a lot more. So it's not all bad news. Does anyone know where the best bang for my $ oil cooler rebuild/egr delete/intake gasket setup would be? I don't want to put cheap parts on it but I also don't want to spend 500 for something exactly the same as the 300 parts. And those numbers are just random to make my point. Also am I right that I need intake gaskets or no? And is there anything else I should do while I'm there other than what I have listed? I can't really afford studs and hg right now, should I backflush and buy some time till I can?(about a month to month and a half)? Thanks again for all your help I'm new to the diesel world, done a lot of research here and other sights but still have a LOT to learn. One more thing scan gauge II, edge insight, bully watchdog, or stand alones? If stand alones I will probably only do eot, ect, and egt at least for now or would it be better to have a pod with everything now?
