Default running rough hard start

trying to help my uncle out with his 03 here, truck wasnt running when he got it, tore it down and did a complete rebuild, also put reman injectors in and new low pressure oil pump and moved the oil cooler out of the motor to a air exchanged cooler in front of the tranz cooler, at first the truck would start and run but ran like crap and wouldnt have oil pressure till you took it over 2k rpms, he fixed the oil pressure problem and my scanner said two injectors where missing, replaced the two injectors and runs alot better but number 6 says it still faults in the contribution test, also you have to crank on it for 30+ seconds before it will start, scanner says it has high pressure oil pressure right away, also he says it starts running worse the hotter it gets, im thinking high pressure oil leak, do you guys got any ideas or suggestions?

When it runs worse when hot a high pressure oil leak is most common. When he rebuilt it did he get new flex lines for the oil rail or at least new seals for them, you can get them through a Aeroquip dealer, stc fittings, not the same as the 05 trucks though. The 03 and early 04 trucks have 5 snap to connect fittings, if he put in new standpipes then there are only 3 sets of seals to replace, the ones on the flex tube to oil rail and the pump to branch tube connector.
A high pressure air test will help you find the leak, there are fittings you can get to screw into where the ICP sensor is but you have to be able to energise the IPR to close it, another way to do it is to remove the cover off the HPOP and use a nossel with rubber tip right into top of the pump, kind of good to do it that way anyway so you can see if it is a fitting at the pump, also check on the drivers side of pump at base right between the 2 mounting bolts to see if the ball plug is still in place, common for them to pop out causing low pressure at idle, it can be repaired by tapping hole to 1/2-20 and using red locktite and an allen setscrew to plug it.

thats what i told him to do, i look for oil leaks by taking the braided steel line off the oil rail and pressurize it there(start with the easiest things first), the newer ones can be done by the icp sensor one the valve cover, the thing that gets me about the high pressure oil is that my solus ultra says that it had like 1400psi of oil pressure right off the bat, i will look into that ball plug that could be a problem because the check valve under the oil filter was missing originally, i think the previous owner tore the truck down and left it all apart when he sold it

When you do the test you have to leave the air on there for a while because it might take a while for the oil to pass through the leak and then you will be able to hear the air coming through the leak.

1400psi? Is that desired or actual though? What's IPR duty cycle at? Does it come up slowly like it should? If your ICP is at 0 and then just jumps to 1400psi or something, that's not right either.
