Random Hard Starting

Random Hard Starting
Hey guys, I had an issue last week where my 06 psd took alot longer to start than usual. It was about 2 days before leaving for a 3000 km trip through the rocky mountains so I went through the usual maintanence procedure and changed the oil, fuel filters(which i do every oil change 5000-8000km) and installed new batteries. A month ago I did the half shell ficm fix to cure a no start situation and pulled the waranty records from ford reveiling the head gaskets and egr had been replaced in the last 75000km along with a couple injectors and several other minor things. As usual the truck fired up and off we went to BC, truck ran perfect with several stops and starts until another random hard start hapend. This went on all through the trip in various temperatures, starts fine... starts hard... no issues once running, no codes no smoke nice crisp start when it goes. Visual inspection shows no oil leaks, loose wires, coolant is good just random hard starting that seems to be getting closer together each time.
Once my neibor gets home tonight i will get my code reader back he borrowed and check codes anyways and re-check the ficm. I just found a link here how to check the glows just in case. Anything else common to look for? I read about the hpop leaks but am not sure how to check that aside from looking for oil leaks. I was also advised to check my oil cooler at around the 200k mark, could that cause this issue? Any ideas would be helpful and in the mean time I will keep reading posts. Thanks for all your time.

A hard start when warm would indicate a high pressure oil leak. Does it only seem to do it when the engine is hot? You say temp doesn't seem to matter though? Doubtful it's the FICM. You can test that with a multi-meter. That would be more noticeable when the engine is cold. This problem seems intermittent. Could be a sensor of some sort going bad. I've also seen this a couple times before (albeit rare) where the tone ring on the crank cracks and sends false signals to the crank position sensor and it will run fine then all of a sudden not start. Very rare though.
How many miles on the truck? Any mods?
