59 Chevy/Cummins
#21
Update on my Cummins conversion. ..................
I drove the old Chevy all last summer and got her back out a few weeks ago for this summer.
So far, I've put about 8,000 miles on it with the Cummins engine and I'm very pleased with the performance and dependability.
My son lives in southern Indiana ( about 450 miles from here ) and I made several trips down to his place towing a goose neck trailer that's about 14,000 pounds loaded.
The truck runs along good at 60 to 65 and pulls well on the hills.
She gets 10 to 12 MPG with the loaded trailer and a steady 20 MPG with just the truck.
Obviously, you can tell by the sound that the old truck isn't stock so I put some "Cummins" emblems on to let everyone know what is in it.
Here are some photos of how the engine looks in the truck.
I ended up using the stock 90 Dodge radiator and fan shroud.
This also uses the stock Dodge oil cooler and stock upper and lower radiator hoses.
I also used the stock Dodge air cleaner.
The air cleaner is fit into the fender on the right side.
The air intake is behind the grille.
The interior from the passenger side.
Some photos of the finished truck.
