The p/s pump I used was off a 95 Ford Probe 2.0. I had it left over from a car I parted out. I added the v-pully. The bracket fit perfict on the block, just had to fab an adjuster.

Hey guys I have been reading along for a long while now, I am trying for a conversion using the AW4. and I am working on welding new lugs on the AW4 torque converter. I think I found someone to rebuild the converter when I am done welding. FTE didn't you have converter failure on your first Try?
my work schedule is really tough, so I won't be home unitl September to get back to it.
Well I was wondering if anyone has tried or thought about a electric power steering pump from one of the newer small chevy's. I was thinking about that, so I could keep the Air con, and get rid of the MB ps pump.
Chumley, your filter relocation plate, is that going to keep the MB oil filter? Did'nt someone make a remote oil filter for one of the MB swaps?

I was just looking at an E-PS unit from a Saturn on E-Bay the other day, thinking that that would make an awesome hot-rod type part. You could run a wider variety of steering boxes, like the tiny Vega manual unit, and still get some assist. Those do use a potentiometer sensor in the upper column though, so you'd need that. And a stand-alone controller. It may not be too hard to hack up, but I don't think the support is there yet. Although I've never looked, so that probably means there are bolt on kits for them now.

I'm ditching the OE MB oil filter housing and using a Trans-Dapt twin PH8A unit.

I have had no problems with my setup, that was Benzer. So far I have driven it as my DD for over a year with no issues with my adapters, I did not do any mods on the converter, I made an adapter for it.

thanks to both of you. FTE, I looked again, and I saw your adapter made from the old benz converter, maybe it was cheaperdsl or someone else that home welded some lugs to a converter, and then had converter failure. the converter shop I spoke with said any welding done to the converter will burn a paper membrane in the converter, and that if you weld on the converter it needs to be rebuilt after the welds, or already be opened up when the welding is done. So I was very concerned about this, and it has delayem me, Then I saw all the clearance issues people were having with the oil pans, so I wanted to keep my stack height as small as possible. and that kept me wanting to weld new lugs on the AW4 converter instead of making a mechanical adapter like FTE. I thought I could save some finished overall lenghth. I don't know if that made any sense,

Horrid FE build?
The FE ford motor is one of the best American V8 families to ever come out.
Stock parts to handle ANY requirement, and weighs @ 425 lbs with iron heads.
That's in the range of small block ford weight, and 100lbs less than a SBC.

And the Aluminum head, overhead cam, BBF SOHC 427 is the BADDEST 60's American V8. PERIOD.

MoPar and Bowtie guys can say all they wish. NOBODY else came close to that one.

Yeah, these's a few motors in the family I wouldn't screw with, but even the 390 can be made to make huge power.
That's if you have the coin to build an FE.

Horrid?

It was a 63 352 hi-po motor. The big port heads were about the only thing worth a crap on it. It's not that I have anything against Ford or FE's in general, it just had every textbook issue that those engines are known to have. It was just bad luck, could have happened to me with a SBC or anything else. At the end I was happy to see that $5k go to the scrap yard.

Big port heads? In relation to the early 352 heads?
Cause those became the standard heads on every FE 352, 360, 390, and 410.

The cobrajet 428 heads were a lil' better, Canadian CJ, a lil' better yet.
Any 427(LR, MR, HR)head is better yet.
Then you have the tunnel ports, which are insanely huge.

Then you have the OHC heads...

I don't know what textbook issues FE's have.

Yeah, any make or design can have issues.

Well I've been dragging my feet on this a little. Some of it was due to how I'm piecemealing all of my parts and pieces. Some of it was waiting on free fabrication. And now it's just too darn hot. I have to work out in the heat all day I just don't feel like dealing with it when I get home, you know? But the dust has been kicked off and some progress has been made. The engine is in, with the flywheel and clutch installed. It's not 100% where I want it, but it just needs a little tweek here and there, then it's mount building time! Unfortunately all that heat from the mid west is sitting on my coast now, so it'll probably be next week before I get started on any of that. But, at this point, I'll take any progress.
