When I took the temp of the oil it was about 15degrees high that the water temp.
It most likely could use a bigger cooler but I just don't have the room unless I put it under the truck. I have put trans under old hot rods under the car but not oil coolers, I have around 1000 miles on it now and will keep you informed on what it does. Vette. |
OK so I started to poke around the motor this afternoon. I got it pressure washed and just generally prepped to do the compression and oil pressure tests tomorrow. I took a few pics and just wanted to double check that what I am looking at is what I've been reading about. Sorry if it's all double talk.
http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...rucks/vdo1.jpg OK this is the VDO box at the PS pump, that's just for the cruise control right? So I can pull it if I don't have cruise control, but how about the sensor on the crank? does anything else need input from that? http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/.../kickdown1.jpg This box is just for the OE auto's kick down right? So it too can be removed, cleaning up some of that linkage spaghetti, correct? http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...ucks/ALDA2.jpg OK last one(for now). -Red : That's the ALDA banjo bolt that should be inspected for cleaning? What does the line get connected to? -Yellow: That's the fuel shut-off valve. It goes to one side of the OB valve and the rear intake line goes to the other side of the OB valve, right? -Green & Blue: OK I have no idea what that is or what goes on the nipples or where they go to. Any help? OK sorry this was so long. Thanks |
The first pic you are correct, don't need that but the crank sensor is for the tach. Second pic, correct. Last pic, red is the alda and the other end of the line goes to the rear fitting on the intake. Yellow is the fuel shut-off and the line is vacume, there is a vacume pump on the front of the motor, the big line goes to the brake booster and tee's off a small line that goes to the fuel shut-off with some sort of switch in between, manual or electric. The green & blue are for the auto trans and that plastic valve can come off. Hope that helps.

Fired it off for the first time today. Best $237 ever.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- We got the 4.0L out of the truck today. So I'm going to mark the OM's flexplate to crank relationship and get the AX's flywheel off and send them out to the machine shop, hopefully by Tuesday. I've also got to start work on the gas motor harness and clearancing the firewall. Then it'll be on to fitting the OE Jeep alt, or at least trying to. On a side note, where is the temp sending unit located on the OM617? Is it the sensor that screws into the head by the injection pump? And is it needed for anything other than working the gauge? Thanks |
That is the sender, and it is only for the guage. I just drilled out the old Benz sender and tapped it for the Jeep sender, works perfect!
|
That's a good idea FTE, and cheaper than buying a brass adapter. Now I'm guessing the air temp sender in the intake sends info back to the glow plug relay. Mostly cause it looks like the wire goes into that hardness. But I found another coolant sensor just behind the t-stat housing and next to a vacuum switch, what does that do and do I need it?
|
Those on the t-stat housing were for the EGR, don't need now. The sender on top of the intake is the pressure switch for the over-boost.

1 Attachment(s)
I did the same as FTE I just drilled them out and taped them too 1/2 pipe one for the temp sender and one for the elect fans. Vette
Attachment 20950 This is where the elect fan sender is on mine. |
UHG! OK I'm going stupid reading the vacuum and wiring diagrams from my All-Data on this motor. I'm also having issue searching for anything aimed at specifically doing this type of swap regarding what you need to keep from the MB side wiring and vacuum. Anyone got anything specific? This thing's got vacuum running to the dang door lock units, WTH! Here's a link to the glow plug relay wiring I'm going to use, it looks pretty strait forward: http://mercedesdiesel4x4.com/Documen...y%20Wiring.pdf
Now here's the valve I got that I think is the OB/fuel shutoff valve: http://i1197.photobucket.com/albums/...utoffvalve.jpg The numbers from the side are: 7.21071.00 12v 9073 EV0001 001 540 7097 Is this the correct valve? Thanks |
if your glow plug relay doesn't work get one of these they work great
Diesel Engine Pre Heating Kit, Diesel Engine Heating Kit, Fourthgen Automatic Diesel Engine Glow Plugs Heating Kit. that sol should work |
