Default 1985 Chevy 1 ton Crewcab Cummins Swap

I have a 1985 Chevy 1 ton Crewcab Dually. I am interested in any and all advice and help on doing the Cummins Swap. Thank you all.

There is a TON of info here as well as other sites, but which engine are you going to use?

First Gen., P pump, 24V, or Common Rail?

Do you have a "Donor Vehicle" ?

Standard or Automatic transmission?

How much money are you willing to spend?

How much time are you willing to put in to this project?

Do you have a Shop with all of the tools?

Good luck and have FUN! I'm enjoying the heck out of my 94 Cummins powered Ford F350.

I was thinking 5.9l. 12V unless I can go 24v. Standard tranny, I am buying the motor and tranny. I have alot of time truck has sat 2yrs time to revive it. I got tools if I need something I can get it. I have a garage and money well just have to spend what it takes to get it done.

I have been thinking of doing same swap, but it gets costley and a big job. body lift on truck, you have to modify raidiator support and figure out which trany goes to which transfer. I want to use nv4500 to older dodge 205. I figure 80 hours with corect tools and i think it could be twice as much. i decided to just use dodge for now.

I'm doing the same swap as u want to do but I'm doing it to a blazer check put my post to get some ideas it's 5.9 cummins into blazer

well,....its more about what you want in the long run. Me, i love this body style of truck and i already had it.it was also paid for. I (only) put about 5000.00 into the swap and it was 3 times the power it had. but the upgrades are a different story,I didn't know about these forums when i did mine and it took 6 weeks (in my spare time) since then I have helped two others and we got it down to a week. just gather your parts up and do alot of reading and asking questions before you start. good luck with your build

yea thats my plan get everything first. First project will be 2wd to 4x4 with a 4 inch lift before doing the actual swap. But it all part of my play to upgrade my crewcab.
