'47 Ford One-Ton (lots of pictures)
Yup, its another '47 Ford but unlike this '47, mine will be a little less impressive. But back on topic:
Its a stock '47 Ford one ton truck, came with a flathead 6, four speed, and a full floating rear axle. My plans for it are very open to change but here's the plans for now: 4bt cummins or 3-53 detroit mated to a 5 speed manual, out back there's going to be a dually axle (dana 80 or similar), flatbed with a dark stain on hardwood, and of course the whole thing will be lowered a couple of inches.

-to find a truck like that is your destiny,and as much as i love cummins-give it detroit!!!-they **** oil,they suck derv,but they never stop and they haul the coal-
all aside-beautiful truck-what a find-PLEASE DONT=turn it into a shiney pony clone-these old trucks survived because they were born tough,look tough=are tough.looks so fine right now.

I have full confidence in my skills as a mechanic, however this is my first diesel project so i'm a bit nervous. Only a little though. And i'm on a very tight budget. Stupid college bills.
I would love to have a Detroit, but it will simply come down to what i can find at the right price. At the moment i have a lead on a cheap 6bt, but if that falls through then who knows what will end up in it. Ultimate goal is a truck that is consistently a good runner and driver.
And just out of curiosity: What is a 6bta? Hows it differ from a 6bt?

6BT is a 6 cylinder B series motor with a turbo....
6BTA is a 6 cylinder B series motor with a turbo and 'aftercooling'
(Think of it as a liquid cooled intake to lower the compressed air intake temperatures vs. a front mounted intercooler... orl like the 1989-1990 dodges.... no intercooling or aftercooling period....)
PS: The cummins is easy to work on.. just do your homework before taking ANYTHING apart...... but to be honest... their pretty simple motors....

Well the bed is in ok shape, lots of dents and some rust, it is the part of the truck with the most damage. The biggest problem would be the fenders. From Ford they didn't come with enough support and they flexed alot which created cracks in them. If i could find a good set of fenders, they probably wouldn't be cheap, but i might still do the original bed. Plus, done right, a flatbed looks bitchin'.

So no real updates yet due to the cold weather and lack of funds. I did find a 6bt that i was going to pick up for cheap ($750 but didn't run) however that deal fell through for an unknown reason. I did however finally find the serial number that is stamped into the frame and got a bill of sale for the truck.
