02 2500 cummins starting problems
so a couple weeks ago my truck wouldnt start. It would try turn over once or twice real slow then click click click! Each click that happened the voltimeter gradually dropped in the dash. I jumped it and it was fine for a week.
Happened again, super slow wah pause wah CLICK CLICK CLICK! Jumped it, ran it for a few hours then checked the batteries individually with a voltimeter. 10.3 and 12.2 the truck started right back up though.
went home and put another battery i had in for the 10.3 one. Started fine.
happened again today. The voltimeter in the dash says 13... wah click click! Tried to jump.. didnt work.
So my questions...
If i go replace both my batteries is there a chance it wont even fix it?
How do i check the battery cables?
Being positioned under the fuel filter valve got a connector to the starter got all diesely and the starter is a little greasy too. could that be it?
i thought it could be the starter.. but it wouldnt turn over at all from what ive read. and it would just click once. starteR?
What do i do?
Thanks

You should check to make sure the alt is charging the batteries first and foremost. Once that issue is out of the way, I would recommend replacing the starter contacts with some beefy ones STARTER SOLENOID REBUILD KIT ('89-'06)-Dodge Cummins Diesel Truck Accessories Geno? Garage
I am guessing it's your starter giving you issues. Could be a bad connection in the wiring though. You should pay particular attention to corrosion on the battery cables at the connectors on both ends. Easiest way to make sure you don't have any issues with that is to take the cables apart and clean them well with a wire brush before reassembling.
Good luck! and
