I happen to have just thrown this up on Pirate4x4 yesterday in a "then and now" thread, here's my gasser pile:
I've had this since '99 with 24,000 miles on it. did the sas at 112,000; 166k on it now.
It drove to Colorado Springs and to Tellico from upstate NY just like this.
Blame Big Dogs and following too many buggies... Still plated and insured and on the road though it rides most places now.

here's the moneypit the morning after I brought it home last fall.
later that day, with Dakota still in tow, I blew a front brake line and rear ended a RAV4. That really set the tone for my relationship with this beast.
day 1: rearender due to blown brake line
2 months: "fixed" 5th gear backs off, swap in rebuilt 4500
17,800 miles later: break 3 teeth off 5th. swap in 13 speed
2 months: 12v block cracks. score cheap 24v to P-pump and swap in
hopefully it'll be back up next weekend.

I bought the truck by Watertown with no mods and a blown motor. The previous owner tore the motor apart to find out what went wrong one look into the melted turbo wheel and it was clear. Aparently towing a overloaded gooseneck trailer with out gauges wasnt a good idea . I was set on stuffing a p 24v in it but my cousin talked me into the 8.3 build saying why not do somthing different from everyone else. Growing up he always had the cool toys so we went that route so 6 months long nights and a broken hand later I couldnt be happier.

pretty badass swap. if my P-24 takes 6 months I'm going to go nuts. I got the 24v the day before I left to spend a week in MN for Thanksgiving; truck had been down for 3 weeks at that point I think. If I get it in next weekend like I want, that's 3 weeks of actual work and a week out of town.... Not too bad, but not the 1 week swap I was gunning for. Got my 13 speed done in a week. Picked that up from Casey's in Buffalo on a Thursday and left for Minnesota without a speedometer Saturday. Picked up a signal converter from Summit in Ohio on my way
