i have to keep my old chevy 1986 Chevy K30, because i can't afford a duramax haha. so i want to stick with the origional plan of building my chevy. I want to do an engine swap the old 6.2 sucks. Im just curious on what you guys think about doing an duramax swap. I know the electronic side is going to be a bitch but im more urious on what all would be involved. or maybe even a cummins swap. im just unsure i would like some advice please.

Not to be harsh, but if you can't afford a new truck then chances are you can't afford to do a duramax swap. Could probably do a first gen cummins swap pretty easy and cheap though.

x2 on the dmax swap. I considered it for my 92 1/2 ton chevy at one time. Now Im going with the 12v cummins swap. You can figure a dmax costing in the 10 grand neighborhood with ECM and all.
On the other hand, you can pick up a fully assembled 12v with turbo and all for about $1,600.00 And it only needs 2 wires going to it. One for the starter and one for the fuel shutoff I think. And there is a plethora of cummins swap to chevy parts and accessories.

where would be some source to start looking for items i need for the swap, and whats a good source for the engine ebay, or would just buying a wrecked truck be cheaper. what about the transmission? use a dodge or would there be an adapter plate to use a chevy. if i did use a dodge tranny what problems would i find there.

Motormounts and all are really not a big issue. You might need to make your own cross member though, for the rear of the trans. As for finding a motor, GearHead Engines | Remanufactured Engines | Crate Engines | Reconditioned Engines | Used Engines | European Engines is a good start. There is a place that specializes in all the cummins repower parts. I will get their link this evening bud. They are up north somewhere, and I cant remember it off the top of my head.
