Speedometer Acting Up

Speedometer Acting Up
With the onset of Winter and the cold weather we found that the speedometer does not work properly.
It reads about 20mph low until we drive about 20-40 miles. I can tell when it starts working as it jerks or jumps up a couple mph closer to our actual speed. Once it starts working properly its good for the rest of the day.
Unfortunately the majority of our driving is 8-10 miles.
It's as if the grease in the cable is freezing...is there someplace I should lube the cable?
Thanks all...
