Default need help

(1996 gmc 6.5l td) here is what is going on i went got new tires on my truck. got home fine went out later that day and my truck stopped running as if someone shut the key off. i tried starting it and it took 10 min to get it started. drove it to my daughters house and shut it off and it wouldnt start back up so i had it towed home the next week i tried starting it and it started up. so i took it 5 blocks to put gas in it and it died at the pump wouldnt start back up. talke to some local mechanics and they told me it sounded like the fuel pump driver module (pmd) bought one of those and put it on. started right up so i got in it and drove it about 1/2 mile and it died would not start back up. had it towed again. i can start it and let it idle for 2 hours and will do fine. if i get in it and drive it it dies i am new to diesels and dont know what to look for so any help would be appreciated. i am stumpped on this

ok i dont know anything about the 6.5 gmc'c at all.....but i had a 6.9 ford and i had the exact same symptoms as your having. spent alot of money on it tryin to figure it out. long story short there was a screen in the IN fuel line where it connected to the injector pump and it was all full of ****....took it apart took the screen out, cleaned the crap out, blew the lines out and all was solved.......like i said i dont know anything about those motors just a suggestion

yup it sounds like a fuel issue. you can hook up a fuel pressure gauge to the t handle near the alternator and get the truck some revs. if it drops below 0 your lift pump is either not working or you have a restriction in the fuel lines.

there is a fuel sock that is located in the fuel tank that can get clogged. sometimes gm put the gasoline sock on a diesel which is even easier to clog. check if that is clogged and also try to blow out your fuel lines. check your fuel filter too

I would buy a true blue stanadyne pump not a cheaper one. I would question that the injection pump is bad. how did the truck run before it started dieing? If it was me I would get the lift pump working and see how if runs before replacing the injection pump.

just go to a local parts store and ask for a 1993 lift pump. they flow more than other years. but i would compare prices first

Make sure you get one who know those 6.5L, because guessing will cost a lot.
you should have 5 to 10 PSI fuel pressure, & 1 pint in 30 seconds.
A scanner (tech 2 ) will allow to monitor injection width & see if pump is performing as it should under load, fuel temp, timing advance.
