6.5 TD about to give heart attack

I pulled off the starter tonight and bench tested it. I bridged to the pole that the old starter was hooked up to. Apparently the chinese label opposite poles the same thing. The ironic thing is that with the old starter that I didn't do anything to made the same noise as the new one hooked up to the wrong pole. Swapped the ignition lead to the other pole and fwallah. Fired right up. Thank god that is over with. I feel like an absolute idiot. New starter and a new battery and I'm back on the road. Thank all of you who helped me with this problem. I really appretiate the help. Oh and it sounds like you have too close of clearance to the flywheel if your starter cannot pull the jackshaft back. Try throwing .020 or .030 in there and see if it disengages easier.

Diesel slug and Woody, thank you guys very much for your support. I know I worked harder because I knew there were people wondering what was happening even though the mosquitos were freaking nuts the last week. Remember Diesel slug, and I'm not trying to **** you off, but machining on these junk chinese starters isn't the same as the clearances we make things in the old US. I had to put .040 under my new one and luckily I had them laying around. Otherwise I had a terrible wining sound. Shimmed it out and perfect. If your starter is sticking on and it doesn't have enough power to pull it back then the jackshaft could be jamming its self against the flywheel, either that or your ignition switch on the coulmn is acting up. Either way I appretiate your support guys! Have a great day!

NP, thats what we are here for. Yeah, i will never again buy a starter of ebay again, what a joke that was. I think this starter is just old, it came off an all original engine with 90k on it so im sure its never been rebuilt. Im going to get the chinese one rebuilt so i can put it back in, sinc eit spun so much faster. Im sick of messing with starters. Mine doesnt whine or whirr. Tell yah the tructh it sounds fine What sizes to shims come in?? If i needed one im sure it would only need to be the smallest they make....?
