The tail shaft is longer in a 4WD 4l80E as well as the NV4500 in 4WD.

So a new drive shaft is needed or a new cross member to hold the transfer case is needed?

If you want to use your current trans your going to have to change the output shaft and get a extension housing. Probably easier to just get a 4x4 trans with the tcase.

So lets see

New shocks

wheels hubs

transmission and drive shafts

front diff and ifs axles

i have to but an opening where the 4x4 selector lever goes

abs harness? (heard it from someone)

crossmeber for both the trans and engine

and a p.s Steering box for 4x4

man, sounds like a pricy list so far if i have it right

Very pricey. That's why people usually get a donor truck with a blown motor or body damage to do these types of swaps.
Depends where you live and how much room you have for junk. Around here I can by a donor for 500-800, pull all the good parts, and scrap the rest for 400 back in my pocket.

Of course I'm in farm and oil country so old 4x4s are growing on trees

Man i wish i lived in area like that.

Just my luck that my 4x4 grow on trees like pigs fly. Im lucky to come across anything like that. I have been thinking of selling the old girl for a truck a friend of mines boss is selling. 1998 GMC k3500. same everything as my chevy. new short block since old motor blew (i dunno why) tran rebult and is at 197k with no rot.

maybe i should go for it? He has no idea how to work on diesels so the timing is off on the motor and he broke 2 of the blow off sensors for the turbo.

my friend said it smokes a bit and will flood after trying tom start it right after running.
