They dont supply us with work pants where i work so i use old jeans as work jeans and the stainless rod that we use flows like melted butter and if your not careful welding vertical it will roll off and catch your pants on fire that was an experience. I like the TIG better

Wrap the welding wire(that goes to the stinger) around your whole arm/elbow/bicepts. You will have such more control over it and you wont shake as much

don't tuck your jeans into your boots cause hot slag will get in there and burn ya, and don't get the **** in your eyes cause it hurts terribly and it'll be a long process to get ya fixed up, learned from experience.

That is a stupid thing to put out there there are many reasons to wear long sleeves.
1. with the proper shirt it will hit and go out
2. you are not exposed to the rays put off by welding.I know several people that have bad skin cancer on their arms because they did not wear proper clothing.
3. we are talking about metal that is molten it will burn through anything and does not always just roll off bare skin.

As a ag teacher that teaches welding i can not stand comments like that or show like american chopper or some of the others because they ignore basic safety principals.

I want you to understand this is not a personal attack against you are entitled to your thoughts and ways just dont suggest something that can cause major problems down the road

I completely agree for someone that welds for a job or for someone that does it a lot... if your gonna go out and like he did just go out and change the tabs on his bull bar.... i'm definately not sayin to ''not'' do it i just do not think its a necessity...i get the same burn from being in the sun all summer... once i tan it doesnt burn me.. i know its still bad but oh well.. and i'm out in the middle of a field its hot and i'm fat.. ...

I built a reese hitch for a semi truck last week, it was not pretty but it towed a car all the way to New York just fine with a 220 Mig. I also built everything under my gas sled puller with my 110 Mig. I normally weld in t-shirts, jeans and boots. Why, because I don't care. I have a good auto darkening helmet and if its cold I put on a flannel shirt...

Well I know "pros" that have been welding for 20-30 years and they would all tell you to wear longsleeve shirts. If you wear a denim longsleeve shirt, its gonna take a while to burn through, and you're just going to feel some heat at first, and have time to flick it off. If it touches your skin directly first you're going to have a lot greater chance of getting burnt before you can get if off of you.

And its not like you cant stand to wear it in the heat either. Two summers ago I was working for a guy on about a 1/2 mile of pipe fence. Id start about 8 in the morn, but by noon it would be 80-85, and 90-100 by one or so, and work til about 4. I was in directly sunlight every foot of the way, and with two shirts on, as long as I kept hydrated I didnt ever get too hot.

I know its nice to weld in shortsleeve for a little while, but there are negative consequences if you do it for too long.
