Hello : I just picked up my new\old truck in Britsh Columbia and drove it home to Ontario. It had Amsoil in it (1991 5.9 Non IC) but the previous owner had passed and I don't know what he was using. The engine has 267,000 kms. on it now, also summer is coming. What should I be changing it out for. Thanks in advance - Mark

 

You can use any of the diesel oils and you'll be fine. Hard to say what might have been in it. The AME 15/40 is by far the most popular in the older trucks, but being up north, it's possible he may have ran the 5/30? I would run the AME unless you wanted something a little better for the winter months, then I would go with the DEO, 5/40.

Thanks for the info Heath. I believe I'll use the multi weight you suggested. As for the drive, the truck came with a 22.5' 5th wheel trailer attached. I'm used to driving muscle cars across country but I was comforatable in the truck. A good long distance machine and I wanted a 1st gen with no rust. Rgds - Mark
