AMSOIL may do a diesel oil comparative study???
Here is a thread on another forum by a dealer in my group. Thought you might be interested. If you have any input as to a choice, just respond here and I'll be sure to tally the votes and get them submitted if this does come to light. You can select more than one.

Ok, the thing is this, I have heard "Rumors" that AMSOIL is considering performing Diesel Oil Comparison testing. Now, before I go any further let me say that ALL of AMSOIL's testing results that are used in advertising and marketing are the results of independent labs. They do not use their own test reports to promote products.
But here is the thing, My Dealer Group, "Synthetic Motorsports" are posting polls to find out first who would like to see the testing performed, and second what oil brands would the majority of people in the industry would like to see tested.
Now, let me say this, AMSOIL has a stance that when they do major testing like this, it is usually done to compare AMSOIL against other readily available well known national brands like Mobile 1, Valvoline, Havoline, Pennzoil, etc. They are not in the habit of testing against lessor known oils like Shaeffers.
BUT, maybe if we can get enough noise stirred up about what the consumers out here in the Diesel Performance world would like to see, maybe we can sway the choices to our favor.
"The Squeaky Wheel Gets The Grease" So let's all put aside the, ,y oil is better than your oil BS for a little while to strive for a common goal.
Now, if you would like your name added to this petition for verification of your wishes to see this, please add your first and last name and the oil of your choice that you would like to see in the comparison.
Thanks for your attention!!!

Yeah, like Heath said, this idea is ponly being considered at AMSOIL at this point and the goal of posting this I think would be to allow those in the industry and hobby overall a voice in the form of a petition submitted to AMSOIL to let them know what the majority of the enthusiast in the Diesel Performance Industry would like to see tested.
It is common practice for them to only test against larger more well known national brands of oils like Mobile 1 and Havoline or Rotella verses say a smaller company that is not as well known like Shaeffers.
Their testing for anything that will go into marketing is ALL done at independent labs. AMSOIL does pay for the testing, but that is because no other company out there will chip in on the testing. Maybe we could get enough stink stirred up about it in the industry for the other major synthetic diesel oil manufacturers to pitch in on the cost of comparing their oils to AMSOIL so that noone can say that it way biased for that reason???

The cost of a bunch of UOAs for this purpose is insignificant. The question initially posed as answered by BD is obviously the only correct answer. ALL major brands, or at the very least a representive from each major producer/blender would be the only way to lend credibility to it.
Otherwise it's really just a marketing exercise, which is what this type of thing normally amounts to anyway.
WRT the methodology, I'd only be interested in a cost vs. benifit analysis of the wear number deltas compared to the cost/price deltas. Any chance of seeing something like that? IOW for example, Amsoil is giving the best wear by a 2% margin over the same period in the same engine under the same conditions but costs 27% more. Something like that?

Yes, Heath or any other AMSOIL dealer can perform cost benefit analysis comparisons against other motor oils according to their specified maintenance intervals and cost per service. It would take some time to put it all together, but it is no where near the undertaking that is involved in the kind of comparisons we are talking about here.
I am sure it would take some time, but could be done without the oil lab testing. Also, this would actually be wear testing which is a lot more expensive than UOA testing.

I can tell you this much the delo is all low e now and the zinc and phosphorus levels are way down on the low e oils. Amsoil heavy duty diesel and marine oil is still loaded with good amounts of zinc and phosphorus. If you factor in the cost per oil change of delo x3 as you change it every 5k and 1 amsoil change you save almost one oil change going with amsoil. At least thats what I have found out here. Delo is $11+ a gallon and a decent filter is $12 So delo $45 a change min.
