Coolant strangeness.
I have come across a problem the dealer cant figgure out (big surprise there). Sometimes when driving my heater stops working and the trucks engine temperature steadily rises to about 245 and then drops back to normal... I looked under the hood and coolant was coming out of the resivour. They replaced my EGR cooler, which proved nothing as it still has the problem. Anyone have any ideas?

The caps are supposed to be set to a pre-set pressure but I don't know what it is in your truck. If they open to early then the thermostat may or may not have enough back pressure to open and if they stick closed it could cause to much pressure in the system and over heat it. The thermostat and the cap have to work together to make the system flow right and maintain the temps. It takes a combination of the right pressure in the system and the right water flow to maintain the right operating temps.
Sorry, I just don't know any easy way to describe it. But even replacing both items would cost you under $20. Or if you know somebody that has a pressure tester you can check the whole system out.
