Default Pyro

ok i was sitting here at work thinking about what to do to my truck next... like usual, and i was thinking new gauges. the question i have is where is the best place to put the pyro. i realize it is more accurate pre-turbo, but what if it happens to break off in the manifold. bye bye turbo right? mine is in the down pipe right now and i always just figure the actual EGTs are about 200 over what the gauge says.

imo dont do it in the down pipe i dont know how much pressure you would have to exert on it to break it off if it is in the manifold butt it would ahve to be alot i have only really heard of it happening on big rigs if you buy a good gauges and wiring harness you chouldnt have to worry about it

I was told by Jim Jessep that the best place on a cummins to put the pyro is just after the the turbine...2nd gen 12 valves already has i place for it in the location that is recommended by cummins

Thats pretty interesting. I have heard that the best place for it is in the manifold pre turbo. I really doubt it will break off, but if it does, get an he351 upgrade.

does the first gen have a divided manifold?

Yes, the first gen does have the divider in the manifold. Here is where I placed the EGT probe in my dad's first gen. In this pic, I am cleaning out the metal shavings with a pencil magnet.

that is probably the best place for true temp. but what about the front 3 cylinders...are they 1400 degrees when the rear 3 are 1200...you would need to have another pyro on the front port aswell

If you wanted to have that info about the front 3 cylinders, you could go with a dual guage pyro. Like this one.

How much of a temp. drop is it if you put it post turbo instead of pre turbo? The one we have on the work truck (24valve) is post turbo and I hadnt got the temps past 800. Its stock tho
